Well the first three months of the year have flown by in a flurry of activity in our home. Eight major swimming events as well as the weekly swimming club sessions, Three weekends of quilting done whilst everyone else was at swimming, countless business meetings/travel/emails, Visits to Universities x 3, Youngest filming three times and one hip replacement. Along with all the usual washing/ironing, cleaning, cooking, shopping etc. So although we think it has flown when you actually look back on what has happened you wonder how you fitted it all in.
I actually got to drive on Saturday which was quite strange not having driven for six weeks but I was fine and it was such a relief. As soon as someone says you can’t do something like driving it feels like you are trapped forever!!!! Needless to say we did not get the attic done as the “Staff” were otherwise occupied!!! Eldest was busy and so was Youngest but we have earmarked it for another weekend to get the job done and also the garage and room off.
Saying that, we did not do a lot over the weekend. We saw some friends, Eldest and Girlfriend came for Easter Dinner which was lovely and we generally chilled. It would have been nice to get into the garden but the weather was not good and we woke up on Monday morning to snow on the ground again, but not a lot to Treacle’s annoyance.
Our Easter Table
This is the Simnel Cake I made which I have not done before. It is a light fruitcake with a layer of marzipan in the middle and then a layer on top with eleven circles of marzipan on top although I substituted little eggs for some of them. It was really good and I was so pleased how it turned out. I will put the recipe on my recipe page.
Our German guests arrive on Wednesday evening and so Thursday will be a very busy day but they are leaving again Friday morning which is a change to the itinerary because of their ferry times. We are going to visit two quilt shops and then take them to Chatsworth House where we will meet up with the men for lunch.
I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and tomorrow I will have the Spring Cleaning Planner ready for you to have a look at.
Hugs, Susie xx
We are busy Hopping towards the Easter Long Weekend. House jobs done, work done, washing and ironing done, grocery shopping done and in true British weather for a Bank Holiday Weekend it is throwing it down with rain!!! However that is not going to stop us having a lovely break.
Here is our Easter display.
It looks really bright against the grey of the rain!
Our plans for the weekend may have to change as The Boys are not now around for all of it so getting everything out of the attic may have to be done on another weekend. I will get it done eventually though!
Treacle and the winter violas and the daffodils still trying to come out.
I hope you like these lovely Easter/Spring pictures and have a wonderful Good Friday. As a child when I was at Sunday School I could never understand why they called it Good Friday as it seemed to me to be the worst thing ever someone dying and I knew all about Jesus rising again on the third day but it still seemed awful. Anyway whatever your plans are for the Easter weekend I hope it is a good one.
Hugs, Susie xx
Today is supposed to be the First Day of Spring but it still fells like Winter! Our snow has all gone as it was quite “wet” so the bit of sun we saw yesterday and it all melted but that has not meant that Spring has arrived as it is still flipping cold! I think this quote from Charles Dickens says it all :
“It was one of those March Days when the Sun shines hot and the wind blows cold. When it is Summer in the light and Winter in the shade!”
This definitely describes the weather we are having at the moment and I can’t even say I am looking forward to April as I hate the rain showers we get for no apparent reason when you can get soaked and the next minute the sun is out and it is quite warm!
Easter is coming up fast and I think because it is quite early, end of March/beginning of April, it has confused me. Plus we are normally away and we are not this year so another difference. Youngest finishes next Tuesday from college and obviously we have Good Friday off as a holiday and Easter Monday too. I am planning, if the weather is good, to either empty the garage and our room off and get rid of anything we don’t use, need or have duplicates of. If the weather is not good then the idea is to empty the attic (!) and do the same for that. We also have some rooms to paint but that may be a bit ambitious after my Op and may have to wait for later in the year!!!
Speaking of Ops, I am doing okay but still very tired by the end of the day. I have been busy doing the exercises and making sure I am walking “properly”. I did not get up early today as I was so tired from yesterday when I spent all day at my desk. Tomorrow I have some more work for the end of the month to get done so will probably get up early then.
It is Owen’s First Birthday on Saturday but we are not able to go but are visiting on Sunday to see them all then! As we have all said, where has a year gone?!!!!!! Saturday DH and Youngest are out at swimming competitions so I will be spending a day quilting again, especially if the weather is still not good.
I hope you are all having a Thrilling Tuesday.
Hugs, Susie xx
Okay I bet you are wondering what I am up to now!!! As the weeks advance through March I seem to be getting an Email an hour regarding Spring Cleaning! I mean I get over forty emails a day with work and Boys things and swimming and my Blog but it has really ramped up for Spring Cleaning over the last few days.
I am getting emails from the department store I shop at trying to sell me new cleaning appliances, I am getting emails from my supermarket trying to get me to buy every cleaner known to man and of course an email a day from Martha Stewart telling me how I should clean everything we own!!
Now I always, with the help of DH, do our Spring Cleaning and depending upon how strong I feel during the weeks that I do it depends upon how I go about it and this is where the “somewhere between Martha Stewart and Bad Moms” comes in! Now if you have not seen the film “Bad Moms” I can recommend it, even DH liked it. It is essentially a tale of three Moms who are trying their hardest to be perfect in every way and then decided that that it is too much and throttle back. As you can imagine there is chaos but it all comes right in the end.
(Martha Stewart from marthastewart.com website)
Now back to Martha Stewart. I am sure when she was young and setting out she did do all the things she tells everyone they should be doing, especially with cleaning but as we all know she has a huge staff now who actually do all this work which she directs to be done. Now we could all get everything done if we had the same help but I bet, like me, you don’t have staff and have to do the work yourself.
So, like my Christmas Planner, I am going to show you my Spring Cleaning Planner over the next few days/weeks and hopefully this will help you to get yours done. It will show you some of the tips and hints that I have picked up over the years from various places and from my Grandmother, who I always helped with the Spring Cleaning and hopefully by the end of it we will have a lovely clean home without too much stress and effort and somewhere between Martha Stewart and Bad Moms!!!!
It’s being doing this again all day today and really does not make me feel like Spring Cleaning! In fact it just makes me want to hibernate even more! I have been working all day today and have another basket of ironing to do and it is House Jobs tomorrow and grocery shopping on Saturday! DH and Youngest are out at swimming events tomorrow and Saturday evening and during Saturday I am hoping to spend the day quilting because it’s …..
This Saturday National Quilting Day! So I hope you are all able to get into your sewing space to do some quilting!!! I am hoping to get quite a bit done which I will hopefully get to show you on Sunday or Monday.
I hope you are all having a Thrilling Thursday.
