My Computer Is Poorly Too!

Snake Inside Computer 3
Mine isn’t this bad, however.  This is from 2002 in Australia when an engineer went to find out why the computer wasn’t working!  Boy did the Engineer get a fright and took the pictures to prove what had happened!!!

Hi Folks

Just stopped by, via Eldest’s computer (who is not happy with him being kicked off) to say that my computer is sick at the moment.  I think my hard drive has decided to give up the ghost and DH is away again for a couple of days and he is my IT guy!!!

So there won’t be any posts for a couple of days until I can get it fixed.  I have also broken a light bulb in the fitting in our dressing room and now the base won’t come out, so I have broken a pencil to make the three things!!!!!  I am superstitious!!!!!!

Hope every one on the East Coast of the USA is safe and I will hopefully see you in a few days.

Wicked Blog Hop Winner

I have been in such a spin, which is appropriate as Halloween is coming up!  The last few days have disappeared and the Boys have finished on Friday for a week’s holiday and boy do I need it!!!!!!
I am so sorry to everyone who left comments on my Wicked Hop Post, I started off well and replied to them as they came in and then I got behind and I have not replied to about fifty of you and I am so sorry.  Please know that I have read everyone and loved hearing from you.  To all my new followers, hello, and sorry not to have contacted you.  I am going to try and catch up this week.
Friday was a manic day as I had gone out with the intention of getting my Christmas shopping finished and only managed to do about half of it! Then we were swimming Saturday and I had to get some urgent work finished, so that was the weekend gone.
Any Hoo!!!!!  Mr Random Number Generator has picked a winner and it is Helen of New Jersey who said :
Really love the houses and thank you for sharing the pattern. I am following!
Congratulations to Helen.  I have contacted her to arrange delivery.
Tomorrow is DH’s Birthday, another reason why the week was chaotic beforehand, and I am going to make him his favourite dinner.
I still have lots of quilting to do and hope to load some pictures of that this week too.
Thank you for coming along with me on this Hop.  I will now try and catch up on the days I have missed, with all the other ladies who have been hosting!!!
The Hop is still on and tomorrow these ladies are hosting :
Monday, October 29th

So Hop Along and see what they have been up to.

Therica asked me where the pictures of the pumpkins at the end of the post came from.  It was off a CD of photographs, royalty free images,  which I use for my blog and for other graphic things I have to do.  I have had the CD for a number of years and it has some amazing pictures on them.

Anyway I have to go as I now have to get dinner for DH and my little, or in the case of Eldest; biggest, swimmers.
We hope that everyone on the East Coast of America can stay safe with the approaching storm and that the damage is not too bad, although I don’t think that is possible looking at the forecast.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

See you all soon.

I have now started on my next quilting project, which is a table runner for the Boys Godmother for her birthday at the beginning of November.  I am slowing ticking things off my list!!!!
I did manage to get this done after finishing the Wicked Blog Hop Block, which is for our Quilt Club’s Christmas present swap.  This year they decided to make a pincushion.  Yep same design as the Halloween one!!!
Today I have to catch up on some work which didn’t get done yesterday.  I have to also go to the Doctors for some tests, yuck!!!!

DH is away again for three days on business but at least in this country this time, down on the South Coast!!!  So Swimming Club run tonight for both Boys and tomorrow we get to stay in!!!  Thursday we have Parents Evening for Eldest as he has to now start his University applications; so many forms to fill in!

Thursday DH will be back but not sure what time and its also swimming, again!!!!  We are also swimming on Saturday evening this week too!!!!

Sunday will have to be a sorting out day, too many jobs, not enough time as usual!!!!

Anyway, go visit all the ladies who are hopping today.  I really need to get on with my work now!!!

Have A Terrifying Tuesday.

Welcome To The Wicked Blog Hop!

My Day is Today!!!!
Welcome to my Day on the Wicked Blog Hop, hosted by the Wicked Wendy of why-knot-kwilt.blogspot.com and thought up by Madame Samm of http://www.sewwequilt.com  and many thanks to them both for sorting this out.  Wicked Wendy has been wonderful, answering emails and sorting out who and when; you did a Wicked job!!!!

As you know, if you read my blog, my first Blog Hop was the Red, White & Blue One hosted in July by Jane at Jane’s Fabrics and Quilts.  The second one I participated in was Think Christmas in August hosted by Lesley from The Cuddle Quilter.

For the Red, White & Blue one I did a log cabin block and for Think Christmas I did four houses. Which brings me to our Wicked Blog Hop today.

I decided to combine the house block with the log cabin block to make a spooky house come log cabin!!!!!  If you do read my blog you will know I have been having a little trouble with quilting, mainly this block!!!  I had to re-size the house block and then adjust the log cabin block, which was not easy.  The finished block has come out at 10 1/2″ instead of the 12 1/2″ I have done in the past, but I think it turned out really well.

I also said I would do a little tutorial for this, so here goes :

Here are the pieces to make the house block (don’t you just love the colours)  This is what I cut :

Green Strip :  1 x 3/4″ x 6 1/4″        (This is the black strip under the house in the diagram)

Orange Halloween Fabric : 2 x 1 1/4″ x 2 3/4″              (This is the body of the house)
                                                  2 x 1 1/4″ x 1 1/2″
                                                  1 x 1 1/2″ x 3 1/4″
                                                  1 x 17/8″ x 1 7/8″

Red Tile Fabric : 1 x 1 7/8″ x 1 7/8″          (This is the roof block)
                               1 x 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″

Plain Orange Fabric: 1 x 1 1/4″ x 2 3/4″  (This makes the sky, door and windows)
                                   1  x 1 1/4″ x 1 1/2″
                                   1 x 1 7/8″ x 1 7/8″
                                   2 x 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″
                                   1 x 1 1/4″ x 1 3/4″
                                   2 x 3/4″ x 1 1/4″

Purple Halloween Pattern : 2 x 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″        (This makes the chimney blocks)

You will have to allow for some cutting down and straightening up as I have had to reduce the original measurements!

1.  Using the 1 7/8″ squares pair them as follows :

A Plain Orange square with an Orange Halloween square
An Orange Halloween square with a Red Tile square
A Plain Orange Square with a Red Tile Square

Use the easy sandwich method to make six triangle square units from the paired squares.  Set aside.
To make the house block sew Purple Halloween chimney block  (1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″) to a Plain Orange sky rectangle (3/4″ x 1 1/4″) along the 1 1/4″ side, press.  Do the same for the other chimney block.

Sew the sky (Plain Orange Fabric) between the chimney blocks  (1 1/4″ x 1 3/4″) and press.
Assemble the top row by sewing the two 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″ Plain Orange squares to the ends of the chimney and sky strips.  Press.  This makes the sky and chimney block.
Now move on to the roof block :
Arrange your paired squares as in the diagram Plain Orange fabric with the Orange Halloween fabric, the Orange Halloween Fabric and Red Tile Fabric, then your Red Tile Fabric Square (1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″).  Finally a Red Tile Fabric and Plain Orange Fabric square.  As above.  Sew together and then press to make the roof block.
The House Body :
Sew an Orange Halloween Fabric Bar  (1 1/4″ x 2 3/4″) each side of a Plain Orange fabric bar (1 1/4″ x 2 3/4″) and press. This makes the walls either side of the door.
Sew an Orange Halloween Fabric bar  (1 1/4″ x 1 1/2″) each side of the Plain Orange fabric bar (1 1/4″ x 1 1/2″) and press.  This makes the walls either side of the window.
Sew an Orange Halloween Fabric bar (1 1/2″ x 3 1/4″) to the bottom of the window block from the step above.
Sew the window and bar block to the walls and door block to make the body of the house block as above.
My Rows ready to sew together.
Sew the three rows of blocks together beginning with the sky/chimney block to the roof block and then the body of the house block, finally adding the green strip at the bottom under the house.
Mine measures 5″ x 4 1/2″.  As the measurements have been adjusted you may need to do a little trimming and straightening!
I then added my Log Cabin strips which instead of 2″ wide I made 1″ wide.  I measured each side of my House Block and made the strips that long.  If you read the Red, White & Blue Blog Hop tutorial you will remember that you add the log cabin strips either clockwise or anti-clockwise.  However which ever way you start, keeping going the same way!
Here is the first round of log cabin blocks added
You can of course add as many strips as you wish, building it up as you go.

The Finished Block
I decided to add a border of the Red Tile Fabric as a frame.  I love the way this has turned out and the colours are amazing.  I just love them so much.

My finished 10 1/2 ” Wicked Blog Hop Block which I am going to make into a small mat for my Halloween/Fall decorating.

I do hope you have understood the tutorial, but if there are any problems or queries please email me and I will try and sort it out, as I said it was not easy sizing down the block! I don’t know how quilt designers do it!!!!!

The Log Cabin Block came from http://www.delawarequilts.com Block of the Month and the House Block from http://www.quilting.about.com, both of which you can download and use, thank you to them.

The Wednesday Wag

I Got Wet This Morning
Today did not start well!  It was heavy rain and when I went out for my first early morning meander through the garden I was soaked!!!!

My towel was nice and warm though as Mom had put it on the radiator for me.  I hate days like this.  I know that my paws are going to be wet all day!!

As you can see my paws are looking fine at the moment.  I had a brush which took rather a long time as I need to have my hair cut.  We can go to the hairdressers now that Mom has got her car back.
Life around here is getting very busy, Mom is either working or at her desk sewing.   The Boys are busy with school work, but they are off soon for a weeks holiday which will be great and Dad is out constantly at work!
I don’t mind so long as I get my breakfast, my walk and lots of loving, which I get in abundance!!!!!!!
I am just waiting now for my Halloween costume to be finished which Mom is doing.
I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.
Woof,
Treacle

Quiet, Don’t Tell Anyone But ……!

Don’t shout it too loud but I got some quilting done over the weekend and here is a little preview for the Wicked Blog Hop starting next Monday October 22nd!!!!
Aren’t the colours lovely, I love these fabrics and can’t wait to show you the rest!!!
I will be having a giveaway too and a little tutorial.  When I can show you the whole block you will understand why I had so much trouble!!!!!!
Besides quilting it was a busy weekend as usual.  Youngest was camping on Saturday evening for a back to basics camp with Scouts and they had to build their own shelter.  He looked like the Blimp Man when he went on Saturday morning with thermals on, thick trousers, t-shirt, fleece jumper and body warmer, he could hardly move!!!!!
He took a spare set of clothes in case the others got soaked and ended up wearing them as well!  The weather was very cold and frosty and they had built like a TeePee shape shelter but the worst thing, he said, was all the wildlife moving around outside their camp.  I don’t think any of them got any sleep!!!!!
Eldest was swimming on Saturday evening for the Club in a new league and we came second!   Not bad for the first time out.  Eldest won his race in a photo finish but did not get a PB (personal best!) he was 9 seconds off what he had done 100m free before!!!
Girlfriend stayed on Friday night, which is why no quilting was done Friday evening!!!!
Saturday DH and I ran some errands in the morning, after dropping off Youngest, and also went to the garden centre to get some winter pansies for my planters and then called in on some friends we hadn’t seen for ages.
It was a great weekend.
Anyway I have work to do today as well as a huge basket of ironing, again!! Also the window men are coming to replace three window units which have gone.  As well as the Scout run and taking Eldest to his tutor and dinner.  The usual, you know!!!!!!
However there will be more quilting this evening for sure!!!!
Have a Great Monday

Friday, Again?!!!!!!

Lazy?
I have been wondering whether not getting any quilting done is because I am lazy!  Then I started to think about what I have done this week :
Saturday – Party for Girlfriend.  Got up at 6.00am for swimming, ran errands, made lunch, got to the party, helped with food and DJ and got home at 2.00am.
Sunday – Up at 6.00am made lunch for Youngest for Scout competition day, basket full of ironing (bed clothes, towels, clothes one weeks worth!!) made dinner, cleared up, everything finished for start of Monday.  DH packed for trip, bed 11.00pm
Monday – Up at 6.00am breakfast and lunches done, Boys off to school.  Work all day, ransack Eldest’s room for all the clothes in various bags, drawers and chair for washing, iron it all and put it away.  Make dinner as we have to be out at Scouts early for visit to Fire Station.  Home by 8.00pm  help with homework, get ready for Tuesday.  Bed by 11.00am.
Tuesday – Up at 6.00am breakfast and lunches made, Boys off to school.  Work.  Make Dinner, out for swimming at 6.30pm.  Home at 9.30pm finish off help with homework, get ready for next day bed by 11.00pm.
Wednesday – Up at 6.00am breakfast and lunches made, Boys off to school.  Work.  Call from Eldest as he has forgotten two cheques needed for school.   Drive to school with cheques.  Go to the Farm Shop for meat and vegetables.  Stock Freezer with meat ready for winter.  Home.  Sort out the 90 invitations we have for the swimming club small pool party in November.  Write Christmas lists.  Sort Christmas card lists.  Walk Treacle.  Grocery shopping list. Blog write.  Sort Pictures on computer. DH gets back from trip.  Bed 12.00 Midnight
Thursday – House jobs, work, sort Eldest’s car out.  Sort dinner.  Pick Eldest up from school and take him to the gym before swimming.  Drive back pick Youngest up at school from Drama Club, bring home get dinner, take him swimming.  Grab my dinner back at swimming for 6.45pm.  Sort out things with other people on the swimming Committee, just been re-validated for our Swim 21 Standard, one year’s work which I do as well.  Home by 10.00pm bed by 11.00pm.

Friday – DH at the dentist, collect trophies for swimming club championships, collect my car (yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), grocery shopping, work, collect Boys from school, make dinner for all of us and Girlfriend.  QUILTING   – Yes you read that correctly I am going to quilt this evening!!!!!

This is Anne Sutton’s Quilt Room of Bunny Hill Designs  I would love a quilting room like this!

When I look back at what I have done, I don’t think I am lazy, just busy!  When you tell people you work from home they get this funny look in their eye and go “oh yes, work from home!!!!”  I think they think that it is just an excuse and I spend all my day laying around on the sofa and watching TV. If they only knew!!!!!!

So I will be quilting tonight and I will post pictures as I go, hopefully.  So long as DH, Boys and Girlfriend don’t come up with an alternative plan in the meantime!!!!!

Have a Fantastic Friday everyone

Thursday!

I think I need this!
The weeks seem to be flying by at the moment, and with so much to do I really don’t know where to start sometimes!
Thursday is usually my day to get jobs done in the house and finish up any work from the day job!!!!  I think I need to sit down and make a “To Do” list as I suddenly remember something I should have done and dash off to do that and then forget the thing I was actually meant to be doing at that moment!  My brain, I think, is scrambled at the moment!!!!
Christmas things are looming too.  For DH’s family, the Aunts and Uncles, I have in the past few years done them Christmas food baskets with Christmas goodies in and things which will keep them going for a few weeks after Christmas too.
It gets harder and harder each year to think of presents.  They all have their own homes which are full of their things, they don’t need clothes and I just hate buying things for the sake of buying things.  I want the gifts to be appreciated and they are delighted with them.  But it is sooooooo hard!!!!!!
I am also finding the same with our friends, who we buy gifts for.  They are in the same lucky positions as having homes, jobs and everything they need, so I think they will be getting food baskets too!  This, of course, means I have more jobs to do, four more Christmas cakes and puddings to make, as well as mince pies and chocolate truffles!!!
I always find with hampers you can by, like this Fortnum & Mason one, that they look pretty but do you really want what’s in them?   Not to mention of course that they are frightfully expensive.  Which is why I always make up my own.  Especially when I know that no one will eat the Gentleman’s Relish in it (it really is disgusting!!!) but they will eat the tomato and apple one I make! I even do away with the basket and generally put them in a jute shopping bag, which they can use again and again when they go shopping.

So over the weekend, as well as all the quilting I need to do, I am going to set out a plan of action and will let you know how it goes over the next few weeks!!!
The weather here today is horrible, grey and rainy and its cold too, which makes me less inclined to get jobs done, but they will still be there tomorrow, if I don’t do them today.  I may be getting my car back tomorrow, yeah I can’t wait!  If we hadn’t had Eldest’s car we would have been in such a mess!
I have been worrying about things recently and last night, having gone to bed early as I didn’t feel too good, decided that worrying about it really wasn’t a good idea because at the end of the day what will be, will be and my worrying about it won’t change anything.
So my Thought for Thursday is just do what you can do and appreciate the day for what it is, tomorrow will happen and there is nothing you can do about it!
Susie x
Pumpkins make me smile!!!

The Wednesday Wag

Life round here has been more chaotic than usual and Mom has been rushing around.
I, of course, have been taking it in my stride and love it when the house is empty as I get to sleep on the beds and generally have the run of the place!!!!
Halloween is coming up and I am deciding on what costume I will be dressing in this year.  There are so many choices out there for us dogs and cats now, that it really is hard to decide.  The new Martha Stewart line for Petsmart is something and I love this Halloween collar and these Halloween bow ties
Martha Stewart Pets™ Halloween Collar - PetSmart                  Martha Stewart Pets™ Halloween Bows for Dogs - PetSmart Don’t you think they will look good on me?
Mom has decided that she should make something for me and has been trying bits of material on me from her Wicked Blog Hop Block, which she is supposed to be doing (she is not getting on very fast!!!!!).

I don’t think orange is my colour really!

I am more a red/brown/russet colour, especially as I am Autumn colours myself.  I also need a trip to the Hairdressers, but Mom says I can’t go until her car comes back from the garage!  I really don’t know what all the fuss is about, I am just a bit curly at the moment!

Anyway Mom has to go to school this morning as Eldest has forgotten two cheques he needs for school and then I get to go for my walk.  Children who would have them?!!! Parents apparently!!!!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, woof!
