Monthly Archives: April 2021

It’s Friday!

I am glad it is Friday it has seemed one of those long weeks!! I know they are all the same length but sometimes they really do feel very long!!!

Our swimming began on Wednesday and the swimmers are glad to be back in the pool.  At the London Acquatic Centre they are currently hosting time trials to qualify for the Olympic Squad this year and our swimmer, Molly, swam the 200m Breastroke final last night and won with a time of 2:20.89 which is a new British Record and well under the qualifying times for the squad!  Jacob Whittle, also from our Club, swam the heats of the 100m Free this morning and is in the final tonight with the fifth fastest time.  Well done both.

We have had a bit of controversy over the last few years in Derbyshire regarding a certain private school who’s new headmaster swept in and declared that they would become the centre of excellence for swimming in the whole country.  Since then they have “poached” swimmers from various Clubs, employed a former Olympic coach from abroad and done everything they can to boost their Club.  So it was quite funny in the heats yesterday morning at the Olympic trials for their only swimmer, swimming the 200m fly, to finish the final 50m doing front crawl!!!  He was of course disqualified!!!  Perhaps instead of being so up oneself they need to tell their swimmers that if they are racing a stroke you don’t change half way through!!!!!  I am sure they will claim that as he was last anyway he probably hurt his shoulders and was swimming down!!!!  Yes that may be the case but it still looked ridiculous!

Tomorrow is the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and there has been a lot said about who will attend because at the moment only 30 people can attend a funeral!  He always said he did not want a lot of fuss and the current situation has meant that there won’t be.  It is one of those days that you just have to get through and I am sure it will be the same for HM The Queen and the Royal Family.  We will be watching.

I have managed to get our home jobs done and am ploughing my way through the mountain of washing!  Hopefully tomorrow I can get some more Spring Cleaning done and a few other things.  The weather is due to still be cool, roll on warm Spring sunshine we are definitely lacking and missing it this year.

TBT.

Eleven years ago today we were in Orlando for our second holiday in the US.  We had the most wonderful time and of course ended up there ten days longer because of that volcano in Iceland that no one can pronounce!!!!!!  I thought I would show you some Thursday Throw Back pictures of then, of course you may have seen them before but hey it is throw back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our visit to NASA, Youngest was stood on the box to reach the picture face and only just managed it!!!  The Boys were fourteen and ten!

The Three Amigos!

DH and I in the queue for Splash Mountain.

The Disney Castle and fireworks.

Discovery Cove for the day, a beach in the city.

They were always water babies!!!

The blue of the sky and the green of the trees.

We have all said that when this wretched Covid thing is over and travel hopefully returns to normal we will go back as we really did have a great time and DisneyWorld really is a place you can visit no matter how old you are!!!

Been busy today with work and as it is still very cold, my body does not know what to do with itself and it feels like going back into hibernation mode!!!!  I really hope we get some warm days soon.  Tomorrow is home jobs day and grocery shopping.  Yeah!!!!!

My Favourite Disney Character!

The Wednesday Wag.

Mom was looking back at photographs from last year when the beginning of April was really warm!  Unlike this year at the moment it is really cold.  We have lots of sunshine but it is very cold.  This is me last year in the garden in the warm sunshine.

We also had the garden furniture out as it was so nice!

Another picture of the garden as it was starting to wake up in the sunshine.

Mom did leave the door open for a while this morning so I could run in and out but it then got too cold.  I have been spending the rest of the day in my basket next to Mom’s desk as you can see, I am pretty “chilled” about it!!!!!!! 🙂

I hope you are having a very Happy, Woofy Wednesday.  It will soon be the weekend when all my Boys and Girlfriend will be home!!!!

Tuesday Thoughts.

There is a lot being talked about at the moment regarding the easing of lockdown and whether some of us don’t really want lockdown to end!!!  After a year of restrictions with a few gaps where we could go out, we humans seem to have gotten used to staying home!!  Of course my working from home for the past twenty odd years has sort of conditioned me to working like this, so it has not been such a change for me.

Yesterday, the first day that non-essential shops, gyms, hairdressers and pubs could open there were queues at all of them! Rather sad to see lots of people in the pubs at 8.00am!!!  Today has also been the same with queues forming waiting for the doors to open and to help out the shops can stay open until 10.00pm if they want to.  I think I will give it a few weeks before I venture out to the shops though!!!!

Work is still busy which is good news after all the chaos of the last year and I am trying to fit in doing things as well.  It is great that it is getting light early now so I don’t feel as bad getting up early in the morning.  The weekend looks like it is going to be nice although still cold, so I have plans for Spring Cleaning jobs to be done and I have also bought a new raised bed for my few veg plants I grow, so that will be another job to put that together.  No doubt the Boys will be asking DH to help with their cars, so we can fit that in too.  Girlfriend has two competitions at the weekend too so it is all go!!!

This is what the new raised bed will look like when it is built.  As you can see you can add on to it if you want to.

I hope you are all having a great week.

Susie’s Friday Book Club on Monday!

This is one of the Books that Eldest bought me for Mother’s Day.  I tend to read a Clive Cussler book when I want some adventure reading and when I don’t have to follow a very complicated plot!

This is one of the Oregon Files books when Juan Cabrillo and the team investigate the appearance of an old motor yacht in a dried up sea thousands of miles away from where it was last seen.  It also involves the theory of “The Philadelphia Experiment”, did it actually work or was it a hoax?  The team in their extraordinary ship come up against a weird blue light in the ocean when it flips a modern yacht, is this what was used all those years ago or is this something new using old technology?  It is a race against time to stop the Russion General before he takes over the Kremlin.

I have almost finished the book and I loved it as I have all his other books.

**************

It has been a busy old weekend doing home jobs and today has seen the next stage of opening things back up again and apparently there have been long queues at shops and restaurants!!!!  Needless to say I am not going just yet.  The weather has turned bitterly cold again (!) and it was snowing a little bit over the weekend!  I am still wearing my winter wardrobe!!!!!!!!!!!

It  is going to be a busy week with work as usual and I am trying to get some spring cleaning done in between times as well but with it being so cold I am finding my motivation is a little lacking!!!  Swimming begins again tomorrow and lets hope things will continue.

Have a wonderful week you lovely lot.

This is Leakeys Book Shop in Inverness!  It sells second hand books and you can spend hours in here.  As you can see they also have a large log burner and it is great on cold days!!!

HRH Prince Philip.

1921 – 2021

His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh passed away this morning at Windsor Castle.  Our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen, his wife for over seventy three years.  The Duke was nine weeks away from celebrating his 100th Birthday.

The Wednesday Wag.

It was a busy weekend and I was told, in no uncertain terms, to not lean against the wall or slide down it which I normally do when I am on  my mat!!!! I don’t know what Dad and Mom mean!!!

I was banished to the garden for a little while but I loved that as it was nice and warm and no one was keeping an eye on me, tee hee!!!  I also spent quite a bit of time looking for the creature which is living under our garden steps.

I didn’t find it but I am sure it is busy now that the better weather is here.  Although last night it snowed again and actually settled!!!  It was quite a shock to the paws!  It has all gone now but Mom is hoping that we won’t get any more as it has shocked all the plants which were just getting used to the warmer weather.

Next weekend Mom is going to be busy cleaning so no doubt I will be asked to help out again, it is such a busy time of year!!!!!!

I hope you are having a wonderful Woofy Wednesday.

Jobs Done!

DH and I managed to get the hall, stairs and landing decorated over the weekend!!!  It is one of those jobs where there does not seem to be a lot to do but there is an horrendous amount of woodwork to gloss paint!!!  That took us all day Saturday to do, we got the walls done on Sunday and tidied up and got everything put back on Monday!  We even managed to keep Treacle off the walls whilst they dried!!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday it was really nice weather wise but not as warm as earlier in the week but at least the sun was out. We also got the lawn mown.  However yesterday morning it was doing this:

It didn’t settle of course but it did snow for a while and this morning, first day back at work and all the cars had to be de-iced as it had gone below freezing last night!!  Treacle doesn’t know if she is coming or going at the moment, one day it’s nice and she can spend all day outside, next day it is back to freezing.  Needless to say our heating is back on but at least it dried the paint!!!  At the next Bank Holiday at the beginning of May, we will be painting our dining room which will be easier as it is large walls and not much gloss to do!!  Then it will be the sitting room at the end of May!!!

In between I will be getting the Spring Cleaning done!!  I have already done one room and now the hall, stairs and landing is done too.  Nine more to go!!!  I also have to do some sorting out and clearing up of things.  I am going to leave DH and The Boys to do the garden and cars which then leaves just the garden to tidy and set up for summer, which I am hoping is going to be like last year when it was lovely and warm.

We have now been told that the next stage of opening up is going to go ahead on April 12th when non essential retail will open as well as hairdressers (thank goodness), spas, gyms and restaurants.  Obviously things will be watched to make sure that the infection rate does not go up again.  Here’s hoping.

I hope you all had a lovely Easter and a great week.
