Quilted Gifts for a Friend’s 70th!

DH and I are off to our Friend’s 70th Birthday Celebration in a little while where we will be having Afternoon Tea.  Of course she has said she wants no presents but donations can be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind as she and her husband are Guide Dog Puppy Walkers.  However she is also a Quilter, so I just had to make her something for her sewing room.

I got this lovely fabric a month ago when I was on the hunt for some particular bright white material and saw it in the quilt shop and just loved it.  It has a sewing theme but also a county theme too and I loved the colours.

This is a sewing kit which she can use at her Quilt group.

You always need a new pin cushion.

This is a quilted mat for under her sewing machine.

Of course you always need more containers for you to keep things in so I made this material bag/bucket below:

Everything fits nicely inside, although I have wrapped them individually in tissue paper and then put it all in a gift bag.   I still have some of the material left so am thinking of making myself something for the sewing room, possibly the bag!!!!

I am hoping to get some pictures of the Afternoon Tea and will show you these later or tomorrow if I can persuade Treacle to let me have some time on her day!!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone.

Spoiler: Don’t read this if you haven’t seen the latest Game of Thrones Episode(No. 3)!!!

gt8-key-fb-9x16-brienne-1551376577

If you have seen the latest episode what did you think?  I thought it was done very well, not too much fighting and just enough of a challenge to all our favourite characters but I honestly thought at one point our heroes would not win!  The hair on the back of my neck stood up when Melisandre lit the Dothraki swords and there was a long shot of all the swords flaming!!!!!

It will be interesting to now see how they deal with the other issue of Cersei in Kings Landing and how it will play out with Jon and Daenerys.  Perhaps Arya will sit on the Iron Thorne and rule as she killed The Night King!

I really hope that Mr Martin will release the final book soon so we can see how all the other characters get on and how some of the things, which are not in the series, resolve themselves.  I have all the books, of course, and really loved reading them so hopefully it won’t be too long before it is published.

I had a busy two days sewing and I will show you what I worked on yesterday after tomorrow!!!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and looking forward to a busy week!  We are going to a friends 70th Birthday celebration tomorrow afternoon, she is having Afternoon Tea instead of a party.  It is Treacle’s Birthday on Saturday and I went out and got her presents today !!!!  Sunday DH is at a swimming event, again, but then it gives me another day sewing so I am not complaining!!!!

No Spoilers Here.

infinity-war-red-carpet-singapore-mbs-featured

No Spoilers revealed in this post!  DH and I went to see “Avengers: End Game” last night and can honestly say it does not seem like three hours long.  It was good and did answer a lot of the questions left at the end of Infinity War, although I did get a bit confused at one bit!!!!

It will be interesting to see how the movies from now on deal with some of the things raised in the film.

If you are a fan of the movies then you will enjoy it but I also think you will perhaps have to see it a few more times, when on DVD, to get all the nuances. I know I will!!!!

My two favourite characters of all the films, Rocket and Natalia Romanova aka Black Widow!

Have a great weekend.

New Bed!

The other reason for trying to get everything back into the attic by Tuesday of this week was because our new bed arrived!!!!!  Yeah.  As I said in a previous post we had had our old bedframe for twenty years and so we thought it was about time to have a new one and found this amazing company in Retford, Nottinghamshire where they make all the beds on site.  Below is the one we bought.

It really looks great in our room and does not dominate it at all!  We also bought new bedside tables to match.

This is novel to us as we did not have draws in our old bedside tables.

You could get rails put along the inside at the top so you can hang curtains but we didn’t want to do that.  DH came up with this idea though:

Hanging quilts from the top rail at the headboard end to display them.  So far it is our summer quilt and I now need to get on with the dark quilt I was going to make for our bed which I have not got around to yet!!!!

At night with the bedside lights on.

Of course the first person to actually get on the bed was:

I think Treacle approves, plus the bed frame is higher than our old one so she can see more out of the windows!!!  The Ghostly fingers to the right of the picture are Youngest’s!  He was trying to get Treacle to look at the camera, not much chance of that!!!!!

DSC_1596

We love the new bed and the new wood smell is wonderful!!!  Over the next year we will be replacing my dressing table and DH’s chest of drawers to match the new bed, although I want to keep my chair which I use at my table and am hoping that they can take it in and strip it down and re-stain it to match the new colour!!!!

Yesterday it took me twice as long to clean our home as normal because of all the dust created from the weekend but I got there in the end!!!  Treacle was completely fed up by the evening with all the dusting and the vacuum cleaner, which she hates with a passion!!!!!  Grocery shopping today and finish off the washing and ironing and then I have a completely clear weekend to quilt!!!! Yeah!!!

I hope, whatever you are up to this weekend, you have a lovely time and the weather is kind.  It is typical April here at the moment, sunny one minute and hailstones and heavy rain the next.  I really don’t like April and will be glad when May arrives.

#TBT.

#TBT to last weekend!!!!   This was just a fraction of what came out of the attic.  In fact every room had stuff in it!!!!  The Boys were great and helped sort it but it took soooo long.  We started on Maundy Thursday and just spent the whole of Easter working at it.  In fact Easter Sunday was spent doing this and it was so bad we had to go and sleep at the very local Travelodge as we could not get in our bedroom, Eldest’s room, the dining room or the sitting room!!!  Youngest stayed at home with Treacle as his room only had a few boxes in!!!!!  Easter dinner was eaten last night!!!!

DSC_1579

Eldest clearing boxes (you can see how many there are and this is our bedroom).  Treacle not happy with all the upheaval!!!!

DSC_1580

This is how it looks now, before you could not see any floor space except for a very thin line down the middle to carefully walk past, so it is definitely a good thing to do.

Guest bedding in bags and winter blankets.

The other end of the attic with the Boys’ Keepsake boxes.

This is Stage One!  Stage Two will begin in September when the nights start to draw in and I will get those Keepsake boxes down and get them into some sort of order one set for Eldest and one set for Youngest and then I will be able to get rid of some more boxes!!!!  But I won’t be doing that until then, now that the lighter nights are here and the better weather!!!

DSC_1584

This is the skip we almost filled it and then our neighbour put in some old doors he had and some old outdoor furniture but the rest is ours!!!!!

DSC_1600

Treacle gained Eldest’s old Camper Van cushion which they used to have in the truck when they went on holiday.  Youngest has kept his but Eldest donated his to Treacle and as you can see she is leaning her head on it!!!!!!

I am so glad we got it done and after September when Stage Two is complete we will be so organised!!!!!  The Boys had fun going through things and seeing old toys come out and be re-packed and go back of course!!!  Eldest still has his bedroom to do with things that can be put away and others donated.  We took eight boxes to the Charity Shop for our local Air Ambulance, as they get no funding except donations and they were very grateful.

This weekend DH is out all weekend at a big East Midlands Swimming event so I will be spending time quilting.  This morning I have been working but this afternoon I will be doing house jobs and tomorrow is grocery shopping.  I also have the dentist for a check up tomorrow afternoon and then in the evening DH and I are going to the cinema to see the “Avengers: End Game” film and are looking forward to that.

All over the weekend I have had a cold and virus, which I always seem to get when doing a big job like this or on holiday of course!!!!  Still feel not good but getting on with things to keep my mind off of it.  However I did lose my voice at one point and Eldest said that only Treacle could hear me!!!!!!!  Cheek!

Happy Thursday everyone, it will soon be the weekend.

Hugs, Susie xx

The Wednesday Wag.

IMG_2571

You would not believe what has been going off in our home this past weekend!!!  I mean really no where for a dog to lay its head, every single room has had stuff in it!!!!  It was great as both my Boys were here but they hardly had any time to play with me as Dad and they were running up and downstairs with things and Mom did not have time to play as she was sorting all these things out!!!  I mean, really!!!!

IMG_1901

One consolation from all this was that the weather was amazing and I was able to spend all day outside in my garden playing football and having the odd bark or three at the wretched squirrel when he tried to call!!!!!

The house is now back in order and I gained a few things from the tidy up, a new softy from Youngest and an old cushion shaped like a camper van (whatever one of those is) for my basket to lean my had on from Eldest.  Yeah for tidy ups!!!!!

I hope you had a wonderful Woofy Easter (I also got two new toys for my Easter present).

Treacle.

Happy Easter.

Easter Holidays #TBT.

As it is almost Easter 2019 and it is #TBT I thought I would do a few pictures from Easter over the years.

Easter 2006 – DH, Youngest & Eldest on the Jacobite Queen cruising into Loch Ness, Youngest was six and Eldest was ten.

IMG_1542

Easter 2009 – Youngest, Eldest and DH in London for the holidays.  Youngest was nine and Eldest was thirteen.

DSC03768

Easter 2014 – Scotland and Girlfriend was with us for the holidays.  Eldest was eighteen and Youngest was fourteen.

I have finished all my Home jobs already (8.30am) and DH is actually at home which is a good thing as the skip is arriving this morning!  I have the grocery shopping to do for the weekend and a few other errands to run but so far I am ahead of the game.

The weather forecast for today and the rest of the Easter weekend is set to be very warm with sunshine, temperatures reaching 71°F, warmer than some holiday destinations.  This actually makes a change because usually when we have one of these long weekends it is rainy and horrible.  At least with the nice weather we can also get some gardening done too!!!

I hope whatever you are up to today, Maundy Thursday, you have a great day.

Hugs, Susie xx
