Monthly Archives: January 2022

It’s Friday and It Is National Hug Day!!!!!

Thank goodness it is Friday, we made it, it has been one of THOSE weeks!!!

Today Is National Hug Day!

So I am sending you all a BIG Snoopy Hug today!

Yesterday flew by in a haze of work and today has been the same.  DH was out early doing a delivery but got back early too so bonus!  Youngest has been at home all week to do his training on-line as he was unable to do it from his work and Eldest is still around as we are STILL waiting for paperwork to be completed for his new business!!!!!!  Can anyone say STRESS!!!!  I did mange to get all the house jobs done today, the grocery shopping and have no washing and ironing to do!!!  Of course in the space of a few hours I am sure that will change.

However we have nothing on this weekend except the usual swimming duties which is great so I am going to do some more quilting and a few other jobs too.  I just love these weekends where we have nothing planned.  However saying that DH is out every weekend in February with swimming events!

I have been subjecting them all this week to some new dinner recipes, some they have liked and some they have not!  I will keep trying.

Whatever you lovely lot are up to this weekend I hope you have a wonderful time and I will see you all back here on Monday.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Quilting!

Now don’t faint!  Actually a Quilting post on a Quilting Blog!  I know amazing for me!  I should have finished these two before Christmas but having a bad cold which turned into a chest infection put me three weeks behind with Christmas preparation, including finishing these two small quilts.  The larger one was for DH and the smaller one for Youngest.  Eldest has a King size bed quilt which I am still trying to finish to come and no that did not get done either!!!

It was also a cheat as well really as they were panels and all I had to do was sandwich them, quilt them and then sew the binding on, so not a lot of actual putting together really!

DH and The Boys love pickup trucks and DH has a black one which he uses for work so when I saw this panel I just had to get it.

I just love the colours on it.  Screams Christmas to me.

Youngest’s was again a panel which you are supposed to create an Advent calendar from but he did not want me to cut it up (!) so I again just sandwiched it, quilted it and here it is.  Again the colours are wonderful and reminds me of our trips to London.  The numbers on the bottom which as I say you are supposed to sew around the sides I have decided to put this on our breakfast bar and put something on the relevant numbers for each of the Boys this coming Christmas!!!

Although the panels are a bit of a cheat it is great for something to go together really quickly and have the end result done quickly too!  As you all know when you are creating a quilt, especially the King Size bed quilt for Eldest it does take rather longer!!!

I hope you are all having a great Wednesday.   Treacle has parked herself under the radiator in our dining room, which is on, and does not want to move although she will be in a little while when she has to go out!!!!

WTP Day!

WTP Day you ask?  Winnie The Pooh Day!  Who would have thunk it!!!!!

The Boys loved Winnie The Pooh, I read all the stories to them when they were little and DH read Thomas The Tank Engine.  However Winnie The Pooh is still loved today by all of us.  His sayings and thoughts are quite relevant today as well and A.A. Milne was a really great storyteller and E.H. Shepards drawings so lovely.

Anyway here are a few of my favourite Winnie The Pooh sayings:

“A Hug is always the right size”

“Any day spent with you is my favourite day.  So today is my new favourite day”

“I’m not lost for I know where I am.  But, however, where I am may be lost”

“If you live to be a hundred, I hope I live to be a hundred minus one day, so that I never have to live a day without you”

Happy Winnie The Pooh Day!

I hope you all had a good weekend, yesterday flew past in a haze of work!!  We didn’t do a lot at the weekend but I did get some quilting done which I will show you tomorrow.  Treacle is hibernating at the moment as it is really cold here!!!!  Hope you are having a good Tuesday.

Susie’s Friday Monthly Book Club.

Susie’s 2022 Friday Monthly Book Club

Welcome to my 2022 Monthly Book Club.  I am hoping that I will do more reading this year and have started the year off with this book.

If you have Amazon Prime you will have seen that Book 1 of The Wheel of Time has been made into a series of eight episodes and I have watched it and it is fine.  However, as always there is so much more in the book.

I have just started the second book in the series, “The Great Hunt” and it continues on from the first one where Rand has for the time being vanquished The Dark One but is now in fear of the leader of the Aes Sedai for using the One Power and fears he will be “gentled”, ie driven simple, for doing this.  He determines that the best way out will be for him to disappear, leave his friends so he does not put them in danger and get as far away as possible, and that is as far as I have got.

There are fourteen books in total for the Wheel of Time series the last three being completed after Robert Jordan’s death.  I love fantasy books so I am in for a great ride with this story.  I will let you know how I get on with it.

This weekend we are at home and DH has one event on Saturday night.  I have some home jobs to do and also some quilting and of course some reading to do.  It is very cold here today with a hard frost overnight and we woke to find thick fog too and the weekend is due to be the same, definitely a stay-in-doors weekend!

I hope you lovely lot have a wonderful weekend and I shall see you all on Monday.  It has been very busy with work all week, hence no posts, I will do better next week I promise!

Treacle is already in snuggle, warm mode!!!!

Friday! Yeah!

Well we have made it to the first Friday of the New Year relatively unscathed!  Busy old week with work and it is surprising how quickly you get back into the work groove!  Busy weekend too with the swimming club open all day on Sunday!

I saw this on the Nottingham Instagram page and realised I probably have never shown it to you.  This is the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest near to where I lived at home.  It is thought to be 800 to 1000 years old and as you can see from the picture the branches are now held up by posts and rails as the limbs are so old and heavy.  It is the tree in which Robin Hood used to hide in when avoiding the Sherrif of Nottingham’s men.  When DH and I were young you were able to go up to the tree and actually go inside of it but that has now been stopped due to the limbs being held up.

Robin Hood is a huge part of our home town of Nottingham and a lot of people say he was a fictional character, Yorkshire are also very keen to claim him for their own too, but Sherwood Forest never reached that far.  The above statue of Robin Hood stands outside of Nottingham Castle.

As far as I am concerned Robin Hood was an actual person and did all the things that they said he did and he was from Nottingham!  I feel the same way about Dragons, I think they lived a long time ago and became extinct like the Dinosaurs!!

Tomorrow we don’t have anything on until DH has to go in the evening and set up for Sunday so I will probably do my ironing then.  However during the day I have nothing on so am going to do some quilting.  I know, I know don’t be shocked some quilting on a quilting blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you lovely lot have a wonderful weekend whatever you are up to.

Treacle in 2010 the last time we had lots of snow!!!!

#TBT.

As it is the start of the year #TBT is a little limited unless of course we go back years!!!  What to show you that you probably have not seen already is quite hard and does bring me to another of my Aims for the year to sort out our photographs on the computer and the ones that are not in albums which are currently in the attic!!!

Anyway here is a selection from just looking around at the pictures on the computer.

Both Boys on their last day at Primary School in the Village.

Eldest above when he was one year old the first time it snowed!

Eldest and his best friend James and Youngest and Jame’s sister Emily!

The Boys with Santa Claus in Lapland.

The above picture I actually have in our dining room.  The Boys in our garden.

Today has been busy with work and tomorrow I have home jobs to do and having my hair cut!  It needs it as I am starting to look like Treacle!!!!!

Happy Thursday everyone, we have almost made it to Friday of the first week of the New Year!!

The Wednesday Wag.

I had a wonderful holiday with my family, especially the Boys, but it is now back to just Mom and I at home during the day but it is nice to have a rest.

Before Christmas Youngest sorted my toy basket out and disposed of a few of the broken toys and I was very lucky to get some lovely new toys from Santa Paws and the Boys!

All the extra Christmas things have been put away and Mom cleaned so it is all tidy again, well until I get all my toys out.

I think I am due a biscuit Mom.  I am sure I am!!!!!

Just need to take 40 winks and then I will be ready to play again.  The Boys are currently downstairs in the garage working on their cars and I can hear them but I am not allowed down there as there is too much mischief I can get into!!!  They will be up soon for dinner!!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Woofy Christmas and a very Happy Woofy New Year.

January Hmm!!!

Why does January feel like a Monday morning?  It always does to me after a wonderful December and Christmas.  Not only December really, I love all the months in the run up to Christmas!    We took our Christmas decorations down at the weekend and I cleaned our home from top to bottom and then did a mountain of washing, the ironing of which I am going to do today!  That never helps, I hate it when the decorations come down!!!!!

I remember when it was New Year 2020 and some idiot said it was going to be like the 1920’s again, the Roaring Twenties!  Ha so far the Twenties have only managed a rather pathetic whimper!  Dare we actually come up with some Resolutions (or in my case Aims) for the New Year on the basis that nobody seems to have a clue what is going on?  Well I decided I would do some and they are pretty much the same as last year!!  But don’t we all do that, put the same Resolutions down each year determined that this year will be the year that we actually complete them?  Yes, of course we do, but it doesn’t stop us doing it!!!!

Anyho here are my Aims for 2021 :

1.  Be more organised and tidy at home and with my work.

2.  To Do some, every week, and also more Quilting this year.

3.  To Read more.

4.  Continue to de-clutter areas in our Home, especially the attic!

5.  To Balance Work/Home/Social things.

I think five things is about all that most of us can try and manage.  I am always trying to be more organised and tidy so that really is an on-going Aim.  My quilting I really do enjoy doing but as I have now lost my sewing space and I am using my work desk to sew on things are not as easy as before, so I am trying to organise things to make it a little easier.  Reading, I love, but then work/home gets in the way and so I have not been reading as much as I did so this is one Aim I think I can achieve.  De-cluttering is again an on-going thing, DH and I are continually tackling areas to get it sorted.

Balance Work/Home/Social things is a big one. in 2018 DH and I managed to get the balance right, don’t ask me how but we did, but in 2019 it all went to pot again.  Of course 2020 and 2021 Covid sorted that problem out for us!!!  Obviously it will all depend upon how things go moving forward but if we do return to any sort of normality this year then we are going to try and balance it out!

Everyone was back at work today (!) they were not a happy bunch including Treacle who was having a grumble this morning (!) but it is a day short this week. The weekend will be busy as it is the swimming club’s big Open where lots of Clubs from the area come and swim.  We have, of course, not been able to hold it for the past two years, so it will be great to see all the swimmers there and it is a great fund raiser for us, but it is a very long day!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas & New Year and thank you for reading my posts and joining me here on my Blog and we go through 2022 Hopeful & Happy and less trouble than we have had in the first two years of this decade!

A few more pictures from Christmas!

What is a giant squeeky carrot for if not to rest your head on!!!!!!!

Treacle loves opening her presents!

I am not sure whether the look says “I am going to get you for this!” or “Really Mom?!!!”

We came down to find a Borg in the kitchen!!!!  (You will have had to watch Star Trek to know what a Borg is!  A human/cybernetic being!)  A VR headset was a present for Youngest.  Treacle wants to know when it is her turn?!!!!
