Not I didn’t stay up to watch the first episode of the Final Season of Game of Thrones and surprisingly enough I did not wake up at 3.00am like I have been doing, it was 4.00am instead today!!!!!!!!

Was it worth it?  Not sure yet!  It was good and it was great to see all of the characters in one place, Winterfell, finally after eight years but it was really setting the stage for the final episodes.

Do I have any predictions of what is going to happen?  If it was the book and knowing what has happened in the previous books I would suspect George R.R. Martin would kill off some major characters but not too sure with the TV show.  Who will end up on the Iron Throne?  My prediction is that they will kill Jon Snow off and it will stick this time and Daenerys will rule as Queen of a united land, Cersei will die at the hand of her brother (and former lover).  We only have seven more episodes to wait to see if I am right!!!!

It will be interesting to see what happens in the final book when it is finally released as there are a lot of sub-plots which of course have not been put in the series otherwise it would be going on for years.

Had a busy day today with work and had to pop out and do some shopping for the Easter weekend and then go and see a friend to help with something se needed.  The weather has been sunny but cool but the weekend is due to be very warm which will be great for clearing out the attic!!!!

Have a great week.

This week seems to have flown by in a flurry of getting things sorted after Christmas including our home and my work!  The weather has not been good all week with grey skies and dampness and everyone I know has a cold or getting a cold.  What we need is some very cold weather and sharp frosts to kill off all these bugs!!!  Or snow, I don’t mind snow!!

DH has a busy weekend with compering a swimming event on Saturday evening for the clubs just in Derbyshire and then he is out all day on Sunday at one of the Clubs their Open.  Which means that I am able to be in my sewing room, yeah!!  I have DH and The Boys mats to finish and then a few more projects to plan, one of them being Treacle’s new quilt.

This is her quilt I made her in 2012 and she loves it but it is now starting to show its age and some of the squares have ripped in the middle so I have bought some new material for her to make a new one!  I think I am also going to use a bit thicker wadding between the layers this time for her as the tiles can be quite hard and definitely cold in winter.  I will place this old one in the bottom of her basket as an extra layer.

Talking films for a second, the final and much-anticipated instalment of Avengers: Infinity War will be out in April this year, which we now know is called “End Game” which was mentioned by the character “Dr Stephen Strange” in the previous film.   There has been a lot of speculation on the web of how they are going to resolve the matter of half the Universe vanishing at the end of Infinity War with Thanos’ finger snap and here is my theory.  The Hulk was conspicuously missing for a lot of the previous film and I think he will be the one to wield the spare Gauntlet that the Dwarves of Nidavellir had made and the remaining Avengers will, with the help of a few newer characters, collect the stones but The Hulk will be the one to wield it to bring about a return of the other half of the Universe!!!!  We shall see in April if I am correct! (I have written this in Green for The Big Guy!)

Talking about films DH and I went to the cinema over the holidays, one of those days when it did not get light all day and it was cold and miserable.  The Boys were both busy doing their own things so we decided to go to the Movies!!  When we were first together we used to on Winter’s Saturday afternoons go to the local cinema for the first showing of the day which was half price and then when the first movie had finished go and see another one straight after!  We told The Boys this and we used to do it when they were younger.  Anyway we did this, this time.

As you know we are big Harry Potter fans and definitely like the new series of prequels, “Fantastic Beasts” and so went to see the new film “The Crimes of Grindlewald”.  We were not disappointed; it does follow on from the last film and adds more characters in and builds on the Grindlewald character played by Johnny Depp.  There was a bit of controversy about his casting but he suits the part completely.

The second film we went to see was “Mary Poppins Returns” with Emily Blunt as Mary who is very good.  DH and I both love the original film and they tried very hard to replicate it in this film but some of the scenes seemed superfluous to needs, one being the Meryl Streep scene with her singing!  Obviously being in Mama Mia has gone to her head and she now wants to sing at every turn!  It was okay but the script was too like the original but with different songs and younger cast!  Unless you really want to see it on the big screen wait until it comes out on DVD or any of the streaming platforms and save your money!

I hope you lovely lot have had a good first full week back after the holidays, I always think that once this week is under our belts it gets better!!!  Tomorrow is Book Club day on the blog!

Have a Thrilling Thursday.

Stan Lee.

ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" - Season Three

1922 – 2018

To Stan Lee who showed us through his talented drawings and stories that Good always triumphs over Evil and even if there are difficult times you can overcome them.

The Boys loved the Marvel movies and especially looking out for Stan Lee’s cameos.  We are waiting for the second installment of “Avengers: Infinity War” next year and can’t wait to see how it all works out.

Talking TV.

As you know Masterchef Australia is one of my favourite reality TV shows and this year it was its 10th season.  I don’t know if you watch any reality TV shows but certainly with the cookery show there is always someone, out of the 24 contestants who is annoying!!!  Either the way they come across or the way they relate to the other people or just existing!!!!!!!

This year it was this person, Michelle, who as her job describes herself as a “writer”  when actually she just has a blog!  SO for all of us with blogs we can now describe ourselves as writers!  She never admitted to any problems in any of the episodes with any of the tasks and whatever they were cooking she had always done it already or always made that dish at home.  To me she was the worst person to be on the show because she never learnt anything from the chefs or the events, as she had done it or seen it or eaten it all before and I believe she really wanted to be on the presenting side rather than a contestant.  Fortunately she was eliminated early on, on Gordon Ramsey week and so we did not have to listen to any more of her wittering!!!

There is a new advert out with Emilia Clarke for a new perfume from Dolce & Gabbana where she is singing as above.  I am amazed by her teeth!!!  Whether it is the red lipstick but I cannot  see how she can get that many teeth in her mouth, they are amazing!!!!  Love her in Game of Thrones and I do hope when the final series airs next year it is a good ending, but having read all the books I don’t think George R.R. Martin will be that kind to us, as he loves killing off main characters!!  In fact I am going to get all the books out and re-read them.  There is so much more in the books than on the show, so if you like the show and have not read the books, do so, you will get a lot more from them.

As you know quite a few of the TV shows I watched every season have finished so I have been scouting around the channels looking for some new shows and I have found this.  “Instinct” with the great Alan Cumming.  It is about an ex-CIA Officer who has left to join the world of academia but is asked to consult by the New York Police when a murderer starts to use his book as a blue print for his murders. So far, we are on Episode 4, it looks quite good and I am hoping it will continue.

Finally back to this year’s Masterchef there was the incomparable Nigella Lawson Week.  I just love her whole style and her recipes are amazing and you can actually read her cookery books and she is so funny.  In fact she could write fiction.  Her recipes are very good and you can change elements in them and they still work.

This is one of my favourite Nigella books and I have made lots of the dishes out of it.

DH and Youngest are both back tomorrow and I will be reversing Mondays schedule of collecting them from the airport and train station but not so early thank goodness.  It has been quite strange just Treacle and I at home and when there is no one else at home I leave all the lights on downstairs!  Silly I know but it makes me feel better!!!

I have been busy at my desk all day today with work and then called round to see a very good friend in the village whose birthday is on Thursday, but I could not see her on the day so I had a nice catch up with her over a cup of tea!!!

I hope you have all had a great Tuesday, tomorrow’s Wednesday and then it’s almost Friday!!  DH is getting his tooth hopefully fixed then so he can eat properly.  Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be okay but we are feeling the effects of high winds and it should be okay at the weekend but next week the temperature is due to fall a little making it more Autumn like.

Have a great Wednesday, Treacle will be here tomorrow.

On September 10th 1993 the pilot episode aired for The X Files and for the next nine years we were glued to our seats of whether Mulder & Scully would find the Truth and would they ever Trust Anyone?!!!!

It actually aired on BBC 2 in the UK which is always seen as a Thinking Man’s channel and because of the BBC there were no adverts to interrupt the episode.  I loved it from day one and could not wait for each episode and I even persuaded DH to go with me to see the films at the cinema, although he was not keen on the monsters!!

Who didn’t want to be Scully and as she was born in 1964 I certainly identified with her, even though Ms Anderson was born in 1968, and yes I rooted for Mulder and Scully to be together and it took me a long time to watch Series 9 after their kiss over the baby at the end of Series 8!!!!

This poster still sits behind my monitor in our den where I work!!!

My favourite Episodes :

“Squeeze”, “Firewalker”, “Dod Kalm”, “Humbug”, “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose”, “Small Potatoes”, “The Post-Modern Prometheus”, “How The Ghosts Stole Christmas”, “First Person Shooter”, “Hollywood AD”, The final four episodes of Series 9.  However if I am honest I loved them all but the above are my favourites.

I am lucky enough to have all the series and the films on DVD so can watch them whenever I want to and step back into the programme whenever.

Happy Birthday X-Files!

Trip Down Memory Lane.

Having done a little trip down Memory Lane with Bedknobs & Broomsticks got me thinking of other programmes and books I loved as a child/teenager.

I loved a lot of the children’s cartoons but this was my favourite.  I think I have always loved the space theme being a child of the 60’s and watching Neil Armstrong step onto the moon at I think 8.00am in the morning our time and the TV was actually on, because in those days there was nothing on TV until the children’s programmes at 4.00pm and then the TV programmes shutdown again at Midnight!!!!  How different it is fifty years later with hundreds of channels and 24/7 broadcasting.

Jackanory was a programme developed to encourage reading among children.  Now I did not need to be encouraged anymore to read books as I inhaled books as a child, and still do, but I loved listening to celebrities of the day reading a book over five days.  Many, many famous faces appeared on the show to read the stories and they tried a few years ago to bring the show back for all us adults who used to watch it.  Unfortunately it did not work well.

As I became a teenager I obviously watched adult programmes and my most favourite was Starsky & Hutch.  I loved this show and can remember being outraged by this woman, Mary Whitehouse, in the UK who set herself up as a moderator of shows and she banned Starsky & Hutch for being too violent!!  Can you imagine in this day and age what she would think?  In fact she is probably spinning in her grave.  She also gave an award to a person in the UK for his programme for being wholesome family shows and he has since been exposed as one of the worst pedophiles in the country (they have both since died).  So much for her views!!!!

This of course was one of my favourite shows ever and I loved the re-make a few years ago and wished they had done a few more seasons as it still had its identity.

Now as you know with books it is very hard for me to choose my favourites as there are too many and I would bore you with all of them but here are a few from my childhood which I read again and again and loved them.

This is the first of a series of five from Enid Blyton about a girl going off to Boarding School.  To me at the time Boarding School sounded wonderful especially as it was all girls and at the time I went to a school which was boys and girls and I hated all the boys (that changed as I got older of course!!!).  I loved this series.

This is the second series of books I had which my parents bought me as a whole set and at the time was quite expensive.  Each book has a price of 20pence on which in today’s money is nothing but at the time was.  I loved the Narnia books and let’s face it who hasn’t wanted to walk through a wardrobe and find a snowy Narnia on the other side.

As I got older I moved onto the Nancy Drew series and loved every one of the books and collected them all.

I had always read older than my age from being little and at school, so before I went to Senior School I found The Hobbit and loved it so then started reading all the books in the series.

By the time I got to Senior School I was devouring Agatha Christie Books and loved every one of them and although I have read them several times I can still re-read them again.

I hope you liked this little wander down my Memory Lane and are having a Thrilling Tuesday.

Hugs, Susie xx

A little bit different #Throw Back Thursday today.  As you know whilst I have been confined to Quarters I have been watching quite a few films, some new and some I have watched several times before.  Of course there are only so many out there and I finally got around to watching a few from my childhood.  One of which was and remains still my most favourite.

I don’t know why it was my favourite as a child but I just loved it and watching it again recently it did not disappoint.  I always felt that the scene with Professor McGonagall at almost the end of Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows where she makes the stone guards come to life to protect Hogwarts, was based upon when Miss Price makes the armour walk to defeat the Nazi invasion force.  As JK Rowling is the same age as me I am sure she got the inspiration from this Disney film for that scene of hers.

I always loved the travelling brass bed and when I bought my first double bed I choose one just like it.  It was dammed uncomfortable when you sat up to read in it with the brass bars on your back and despite putting pillows at it, it was still dreadful!!!!  Needless to say I got rid of it!!!.

I suppose because of this film I was bound to love the Harry Potter series, which I read all the books to both Boys and of course saw all the films with them, even DH liked them.

Speaking of movies there are quite a few coming out this year from Disney which I would like to see.  There is the new “Avengers – Infinity War” where there are more stars in it than you can shake a stick at!  Goodness knows how much the salaries are for all of them.

There is the new Star Wars movie “Solo” coming out about a young Han Solo which I hope will be better than the Star Wars ones so far.  I feel that since George Lucas has handed over to Disney it has gone awry.

Finally back to my childhood with the new Mary Poppins film coming out at Christmas with Emily Blunt as Mary.  I like her as an actress and think she will play the part well.  So with the price of cinema tickets now I had better get saving up to go and see all of these on the Big Screen!!!

Today is house jobs day and tomorrow grocery shopping and Saturday I will be back in my sewing room trying to get some more things done!  I hope you all have a Terrific Thursday.
