We Shall Remember Them.

Today we Remember all those who gave their lives for us, particularly during WWI, which ended 100 years ago today.  Our family were lucky and my Grandfather who was in the Tank Corp during The Great War came home when so many did not.

We also Remember all those who gave their lives for us in WWII.  Again my family were lucky and my Dad, who was in the RAF during that War, came home.  DH’s father was in The Royal Engineers and he came home too.

We also Remember all those who have given their lives in conflicts around the World since the end of WWII and to all those serving now who keep us safe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I can only trace my family’s history, as far as military service, to WWII (well, I can go back to the Civil War, but!) – my dad was in the Navy and my mother’s brother was in the Army Air Corps (that became the US Air Force). They both came home safely. I have 2 cousins (twins) who served during the Vietnam War – USAF & USN, both pilots, fighters and rescue helicopters – one has passed from Parkinson’s Disease caused by Agent Orange and his brother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s about 5 years ago. My ex was a Marine (31 years), and two of my daughters are in the military (USAF & USA). I guess we are kind of a military family. I appreciate the sacrifices of those who came before me who were willing to lay down their lives that I may live with the freedoms I enjoy so much today!
