Linky Party & The Wednesday Wag.

p.txt

I am pinching a little bit of Treacle’s Wednesday Wag to let you know about Val’s Tuesday Archives at Val’s Quilting Studio (http://myplvl.blogspot.com).  This is a Linky Party every Tuesday where we re-visit old Blog Posts based on a different theme each week.  This week Val is holding a Giveaway as it is her 200th Linky Party, so why not hop over and have a look at whats been going off and join the fun and have a chance to win.  Val has let you know what you need to do to join the fun and also several ladies, including me, have already linked up.  It is also good fun to look back at old posts and get inspiration from things you have made in the past and also see what other talented ladies have been up to.

Thank you Treacle x

I mean really using my day to promote your quilting!  Mom!  “sorry Treacle, it won’t happen again”.

IMG_1434

Since Monday it has been lovely and warm and Mom keeps telling me I need to go visit my Spa but I am okay at the moment.  I have managed to find plenty of shade when I need it to cool down but then I cannot resist sunbathing for a while.   Mom said she is very glad I am not white and she would then have to put sun cream on me as well as Dad and the Boys!!!!

IMG_1519

I am loving it at the moment as Youngest has almost finished college and so is at home more and his new Girlfriend is also with him.  She loves dogs and that means I love her too.  I am so lucky as both my Boys have Girlfriends who love dogs, what more could a doggie ask for.  This picture was last week at Mom’s Birthday.

IMG_1375.JPG

It is even sunny where I sit waiting for my breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Mom says walks have to be done early in the morning or late at night when the sun has not gotten up or when it has gone down so it is hopefully cooler.  Mom likes the heat but even she is staying out of it today after the last few days.

IMG_1436

Because I am spending lots of time out-of-doors I am very tired as I am not getting as much sleep as usual and as it is so warm I am getting up in the night trying to find cool spots to lie in and then keep waking Mom up.  Dad does not hear me and still manages to sleep all night without being disturbed!!!!

This weekend Dad is out for some of it so I think we will be gardening and then Mom will be quilting so I will be able to catch up from all my missed sleep this week when she is quilting!!! I hope you are having a lovely start to summer.

Woof, Treacle.

Calm.

IMG_0718

I have had a lovely Birthday week.  I had lunch with Jayne and we got to talking about life in general and I said that after the last ten very challenging years with the business as well as coping with huge changes in our family, I have been very stressed.  However this year I got to the point where I decided that really at the end of the day there is only so much I can control and the rest I just have to go along with.

I also found that I was worrying about months ahead and even years so now I only think about tomorrow, possibly the following weekend and perhaps next week, but no further.  Fortunately things are getting better with our business, as are a lot of our friends who are in business as well.  It is not just us that have been going through these challenging times.  I do feel a lot better than I did, but one thing I have stopped doing is reading the news.  I feel that the news shows present the items with their spin on it and they just love dire news so I don’t watch or read the news now.  I listen to the radio and usually there is a five-minute news report at the top of the hour and that is plenty of news for me.

IMG_1366

My Quilting has also helped me to focus my attention as well and then watching a DVD of one of my favourite programmes whilst quilting I find it very soothing.  In fact if I don’t do some quilting now I get quite upset so I try to do some in the evening after making dinner and clearing up.  I also find I get quite frustrated at some programmes that I have watched before but now seem to lead you by the nose and are stressful so I have stopped watching them too.

Books, of course, are another way I relax and find it very calming to get lost in a story.  I am also lucky, if you can call it that, that I can re-read books again and again which says a lot about my memory but even if I remember the story I love reading it again as it is like an old friend.  In the past few months I have not been reading as much as I normally do, so this is something I want to rectify.  I also used to read in bed and I stopped doing that after my Op as I was not able to lie very easily on my right side but now that I am better I think I will try again.  I am hoping that this will help me sleep better.

IMG_0763.JPG

I have also been going through another period of waking several times in the night, which can be quite draining and I am still working on a solution to that.  I have tried the hot bath before bed, lavender oil on my pillow, wrists etc and many other things.  I never have a problem getting to sleep, I have a problem staying asleep!  I woke at 3.45am this morning to the birds singing and the sun rising.  It has been a wonderful day with constant sunshine and no clouds in the sky at all.  In fact I think we are warmer here than the Mediterranean and the temperatures are due to rise during the weekend and next week.  I love this weather but usually by 4.00pm am getting very tired.  As I say still working on a solution to this.

IMG_1300

Treacle loves this weather and lies in the sun for so long and then moves into the shade for a while and then comes back into the sunshine!  Silly dog.  She just loves being outside.

As the weather is going to be lovely over the weekend we are taking the opportunity to empty the garage and room off and tidy it up, get rid of anything we don’t want and of course put back the things we want to keep!

I hope the weather wherever you are is going to be lovely and you have a wonderful weekend and remember:

Live In The Moment

Forget The Past

And Don’t Worry About The Future

Quilty Projects for the Week.

I love finding quick Quilty Projects on the web to make when I need a finish.  This I found is a book cover or anything else you want to protect, like an E-Reader.  Of course you can change the dimensions to make it larger or smaller as required.

IMG_1500

The inside below. It is a great way of using up larger remnants of fabric you have left from other projects.

IMG_1501

I also made three of these :

Again using up remnants of fabric and these drawstring bags are great for when you go away on holiday to keep things together in your bag/suitcase.

IMG_1505

Here is a sneak peek of our friend’s 50th Wedding Anniversary quilt.  I just need to get it sandwiched and then quilted.

IMG_1506

And here is a sneak peek at the Baby Quilt for our friend’s daughter who is due in October.  Again it needs to be sandwiched and then quilted.

IMG_1507

I have broken my walking foot which I am annoyed about, especially as most of it is metal except for the casing where the guide bar goes which is plastic and the two bits which hold the guide bar in place have broken.  Of course it is the most expensive of all the Janome feet!!!!!  I am hoping to get a new one soon.

IMG_1510

I don’t know if I showed you this but Youngest bought it for me for Christmas last and I just love it.  It was too nice to put away so it now sits on the door handle of Eldest’s room.

IMG_1511

Treacle has finally come in fromt he garden and the only reason she has is because it is dinner time!!

IMG_1514

Here she is queuing for her dinner!!!

I hope you are all having a terrific Tuesday.

Oh It’s A Shame!

wordpress-265132_1920

I have several blogs which I read regularly and the ladies who own them post regularly (you can find them on the page “My Favourite Blogs”) but a few have decided not to post anymore because of GDPR!  I know that some of the ladies may be using this as an excuse to end their blogs but a few are concerned about the new rules.

As I said in my post here you really only have to be concerned about these new rules if you sell through your blog and as a lot of these ladies don’t then they don’t have to worry about it.

It is such a shame that these rules are affecting such a creative thing and hope these talented ladies do continue to blog.

IMG_1366

Anyway onto happier things.  I have been surging ahead with my quilting.  So much so that I despatched DH to the quilt shop in Birmingham near to where he was going for work today to get some supplies!!!!!

I have been working on our friends 50th Anniversary quilt and it had lots of squares in it so I spent one evening chain piecing, which was very calming!!!!

DSC_0535

My good friend, Susan, in the US sent me a lovely gift last year and I have used it so much.  It’s this

DSC_0537

It has a little blade in and makes cutting between the squares a breeze.

DSC_0538

All my squares cut and ready for the next step.

This is the pattern I got from the MSQC tutorials on the web.  It is going together really well and I will show it to you when I have quilted it.

DSC_0532

It’s all a bit much for Treacle!!!!!  She loves Eldest’s bed and of course I am in there too so she loves keeping me company when I am busy sewing, my wonderful QuiltyDale! The only thing is when she begins to snore!!!!!!

I have got my house jobs done today and Girlfriend came for a visit this afternoon which was lovely and tomorrow I have errands to run as on Saturday evening Girlfriends parents, Mel & Charles, are coming for dinner, so looking forward to that.

Sunday is going to be nice again so we can get the final jobs in the garden done and of course it is Father’s Day!  DH will just love gardening on his special day!!!!!

Happy Thursday everyone.

A Birthday Quilt!

IMG_1481

It’s Jayne’s Birthday today and she got a quilted piece from me!  This lap quilt in shades of blue.  Over the years I have given her table runners and a bag and now this lap quilt so I joked that I will work my way round eventually to making her a bed quilt!!!  She loved it.

IMG_1478

DH is helping by holding the quilt up and Treacle got in on the act too!

IMG_1482

A closer look at the flowers.

IMG_1483

The back is a faint blue stripe.

Whenever I take pictures of a finished quilt it is either late at night and I need to wrap it to give to the recipient or the weather is dreadful and I can’t take the pictures outside!!!  I have three on the go at the moment so I will try and plan to take the pictures outside and hopefully they will be better!!!

The pattern I used for this quilt is great as it goes together well and  I think looks great when it is finished and is my “Go To” pattern for baby quilts or when I need to make something quickly.

I am a fan of blue and white quilts as I think they look very clean, similar to red and white quilts.  In fact I need to get some more bright white fabric as I seem to use quite a bit of it.

Sunday and last night I finished getting our friends’ 50th Wedding Anniversary quilt cut out and have started chain piecing the squares together.  I need to sandwich and pin the baby quilt so I can get that quilted and still need to quilt our summer quilt.  This Saturday is supposed to be a rainy day so will probably spend the day quilting.

Happy Birthday Jayne!

I hope you are having a Thrilling Tuesday.

Hugs, Susie xx

Quilty Friday.

IMG_1405

I can show you this now, as Sue has received it.  Molly (http://northfordmaggie.blogspot.co.uk) and her Mom moved house last week and so I sent this as a welcome to you new Home and some Bonios for Molly.  It arrived safe and sound and she loved it.

One of our best friends their daughter is expecting her first child in October, their first Grandchild, so a baby quilt is needed,  It is quite surreal really as their daughter used to babysit the Boys when they were little and now she is having her own baby!!!!

Anyway they don’t know what they are having so here is the fabric I have chosen?

IMG_1442IMG_1448IMG_1447IMG_1446IMG_1445IMG_1444IMG_1443

I think it will look great whether it is a Boy or Girl.  I couldn’t take the pictures outside today as it has been raining, although still warm.  Tomorrow it is due to be back to sunny and warm which I am looking forward to.

DH and Youngest are out for most of tomorrow filming for his final assignment for college so I will be working on my super secret quilt.  So it will definitely be a quilty weekend.

Whatever you are all up to I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hugs, Susie xx

Tuesday Really?

sun-151763__340

We have another lovely warm day today and tomorrow but Thursday will be back down to 14°C a 7° drop from today, so jumpers will be out again!!!  I do wish our weather would settle down and if it is going to be nice and warm stay that way!!!  We are not due any rain until next Sunday so hopefully Saturday we can get some garden jobs done.

IMG_1368

Here is Treacle today outside (in this weather it is very hard to get her in) she blends in very well with the plants and I think she was trying to hide from me!!!

IMG_1371

Pictures of the garden in the sunshine.  You can see how green it is as everything has now woken up from its winter slumber.

IMG_1374

A very blue sky that is almost opaque!

IMG_1373IMG_1372

My Daffodils which I thought were not going to do anything are still going strong.

IMG_1377

I bought two new terracotta pots for some new plants and my little grow house is doing really well.

IMG_1378

IMG_1375

This is the queue for her lunchtime biscuit earlier.

IMG_1379

This is the queue for her lunchtime biscuit, hoping I had forgotten that I had already given it to her!!!!!!

I managed to get the two blocks for April done on the “It’s a Wild Life” BOM and just have May’s to do.  I have picked out the pattern I am going to do on my super secret quilt and started to cut out the pieces for it.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

Hugs, Susie xx

Welcome!

Christmas-Welcome-90461

Yes I know it has holly on it but I love this Welcome sign and It is to say Hi to some new followers who have joined me in the last couple of weeks, on this weird and wonderful journey called life we are all on!!!!

Yes my blog is supposed to be about my quilting journey, which began in 2010, but family, friends and life in general also make an appearance!!

Speaking of quilting I have been on a roll this week so wanted to show you the other things I got finished.

IMG_1354

These were the baby blocks above which I finally finished sewing and got them stuffed so they will be given to Owen when we see them next.

IMG_1355

The candle mats above and below were from my Red, White & Blue blog hop I did ages ago with Madam Samm and decided to finish them off.  I think they will look great at Christmas with things on them.

IMG_1356

IMG_1357

Here is the fabric for my super secret quilt which I need to start soon.  The picture does not do the fabric any favours as the blues are much more vibrant in real life.

I don’t know about you but whenever I finish a project I have to tidy up everything from that and tidy my sewing area before I start anything new!  In the basket on the right is my summer quilt which I need to sort the backing out for and then get it sandwiched so it can be quilted.

IMG_1364IMG_1365

I also tidied the shelves and got things put away before I start the next thing.

IMG_1366

Here is where I sew.  My machine has been cleaned too and a new needle inserted for the next things.  The material is the all the blue ones for the next quilt but before that I have two blocks from “It’s a Wild Life” BOM to do before I do anything else.  I am not sure whether I am going to like it when it is completed but it is fun doing this a month at a time, although I missed doing April’s straight away.  I am determined I won’t get behind.  You can also see Eldest’s portable DVD player which I use when I am sewing.  I am working my way through all the Bones series again.

With DH’s help last night I managed to get our room and dressing room spring cleaned and the bathrooms.  Today is going to be warm and sunny so we are going to tackle the dining room and sitting room, leaving the den and kitchen for tomorrow.  Wish me luck!!!!

Have a great weekend.

Hugs, Susie xx

May! Where did you appear from!

9c2ff7ebb13b9bb2b0aa191d869dab2b

Happy May Day everyone, but oh boy this month has snuck up on me!!  Probably as I was out of action for six weeks earlier in the year has meant that this month has seemed to have come round really fast!!!

I thought we would stay on the quilting roll this week and show you a few things I have finished and a few things I was gifted that I forgot to show you.  A very good friend that I met through my blog sent me this at Christmas and I feel awful I forgot to show you, but I started using it immediately  and it is great as a key ring and I use it on my bag.

IMG_1334

When our German visitors came they also gave me these below :

IMG_1335

I am so lucky and I now have three key rings of different sizes for all my bags.  Thank you so much Ladies, I love them.

Here are some pictures of my completed UFO’s which I finally got all the bindings sewn down.

IMG_1329

This was my Autumn wall hanging which the cotton I had been using decided to be all mangled!!  I finally got it all unpicked and then finished quilting it and got the binding sewn on.  I can’t wait to put this up in September.

IMG_1330

I had this lovely Christmas panel for ages and decided to add a Christmas material border to it and then I can put this up as a Christmas wall hanging.  I think I will need to make one for Spring and one for Summer and I can change them as the Seasons turn!

IMG_1331

Finally the Mystery Quilt which I made from the pattern from my Quilt Group.  This is where the flying geese are all different sizes (!) and although I loved the colours when I chose them, DH said when it was finished it was too old-fashioned (!)  I got it quilted and the binding done and will keep hold of it and donate it to a good cause when something comes up.

IMG_1333

I still have two Christmas candle mats to finish sewing the binding on and the two baby blocks to stuff and sew up.  I then have to sandwich my summer quilt, pin it and quilt it but before that I have my super secret quilt to get cut and done.  However I think before I do my summer quilt I will get my machine serviced.

I have two baby quilts to do, another quilt to make where the material is very like the French General colours and some Christmas things to get done.  It is going to be very busy in the sewing room but I love it.

Although it is cold today the sun came out!  We knew it was up there somewhere, we just hadn’t seen it in a while!!!  Anyway someone found the sunshine!!!

DSC_0507

Oh to be my dog, lounging around in the sunshine all day!!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone.

Hugs, Susie xx

A Quilty Weekend.

Now don’t faint when you see a Quilting post on my blog!!  I actually managed to get our friend’s 40th Wedding Anniversary present finished!!!  It helped that it rained for the whole of the weekend and was quite cold again.

IMG_1321

I have had to take the pictures inside today as it is raining again (!) so the above is without flash, the one below with flash!

IMG_1322

As you can see it is red and white as 40th wedding anniversary is ruby.  I am pleased how it has turned out and even more sure now that I want to make a red and white quilt.

IMG_1323

The blocks I chose have a meaning to their life together.  The Maple Leaf as they lived in Canada when they were first married for business.  The Window Panes block as their company is now a high-end window manufacturer.  The Chinese Coins as his job originally was an accountant and the summer block as they both love to garden.

IMG_1326

The backing is white too and I left the blocks un-quilted but did a little bit on them so that they stood out and then quilted around them.  I do like how it looks on the back.

IMG_1327

It was supposed to be a table runner but the blocks were big and I did not have the energy to work out how to make them smaller so I think it will look great on the back of a chair or sofa.  I am going to deliver it tomorrow.

I have two blocks on the “It’s a Wild Life” BOM to do and then get on with my super secret quilt but this weekend the weather is due to be warm so Friday to Sunday will be getting the rest of the Spring Cleaning finished.  Monday next is a Bank Holiday here and DH is commentating at yet another swimming competition, so I will be spending the day in my sewing room then.  I am loving all these extra days that I get to spend sewing.

I hope you all had a great weekend and looking forward to a good week.  I am trying to be positive for this week as last week was not good and I don’t want another week like that!!!!!

Hugs, Susie xx
