Places we go and would like to go!

Remembrance Sunday.

Remembrance Sunday

Today we Remember all those that have given their lives in WWI, WWII and various conflicts since and to those that came back but were injured.

In our family we were lucky as Grandparents and Parents came home, particularly from the two World Wars, but lots of families were not.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:         Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.               At the going down of the sun and in the morning                We will remember them.

We Remember them with thanks and for our lives that we live today.

What a Month!

We have been back for two weeks and it has been very, very busy!  We had a lovely vacation for the first week, the weather was great, very sunny but cooler than at home as we are of course further north.

The view from the cottage and the blue sky!

Coco did really well on the drive up.  We did not go on the motorway as there are only the Services to stop at.  The road we used we could just pull in to places to let her out but she was fine and in fact slept most of the way (above).

The cottage at night on one of DH’s trips round the garden with Coco!

We did not do a lot except take Coco out as we both just need to chill.  Although the garden is fenced it is not fenced enough for a five month old puppy so she went out on her lead every day.  I bought a long lead which DH used once as Coco and he managed to get it wrapped around things and when the wind blew it was all over the place!!!!!

Coco did have a good time running around though on her usual extender lead!

She loved every minute of it.  We did decide one day to take her to the beach.  This was the one that we used to take the Boys to when they were young and it was always quiet with just a few locals.  Well we got there to find that someone had put about 250 static caravans next to it and you could not see the beach for people so we decided it was not a good idea.  However to save driving the long way round via the road, there is a summer ferry between the two points called The Nigg Ferry so we went on this.  Now when I say ferry it has room for two cars or one truck and people. Coco thought it was very interesting being on the sea.

The ferry goes across the Cromarty Firth which then opens up to the deep port of Invergordon which is where they service the gas/oil platforms.

The day was very warm and sunny.

I got quite a lot of reading done which was great and managed to finish five books, as well as doing some quilting.

We had taken a lot of new toys for Coco to play with and keep her entertained, one of them was a toy giraffe with tennis ball feet and she loved it.  However she started to pull the covering off the feet so DH picked it up to take it in the kitchen to remove the feet and Coco was not happy about this.  Up to now she has not really jumped much but this particular evening, the Monday of the second week, she launched herself from the floor up to DH’s arm to try and grab the toy.  Unfortunately she did not land on her back feet but with her left rear leg under her and squeaked holding her leg up!  We felt her over and nothing was dislocated so we thought she had perhaps pulled a muscle.  By this time it was 10.30pm.

The next day she was still hopping on three legs so we took her to the vets our friends use.  She had to stay in and have an x-ray and they found that she had an evulsion fracture on her “knee” and she would need an operation to pin it but this had to be done by an orthopedic vet.  DH and I thought we were going to have to drive home overnight and go to our vet and get a referral from them but fortunately there was an orthopedic vet in Inverness and he was able to do the operation the next day, Wednesday.  We took her in for 8.30am and she was there all day and now has a pin and wire in her knee.  The worst bit of all this is she is on crate rest for six weeks as she is not to jump, run or stretch the knee in case it pulls out again.  Trying to keep a five month old puppy still is like asking water not to run!!!!!!!!

First day of crate rest, you can see her shaved leg.  Don’t worry only six more weeks to go!

The other problem is that of course Coco thinks she is fine!  She had her stitches out this week and then she will need an x-ray at four weeks and eight weeks after the op and we have to make sure that as she is growing her back legs are growing at the same rate, if not then she may have to have the pin and wire removed which will be by the vet who put them in, in Inverness!  Needless to say the final two days of the vacation we stayed in at the cottage!

She is being very good although we have to really keep an eye on her to make sure she does not do anything she shouldn’t and she is taken out on her lead on the patio several times a day.  We have also bought her quite a few interactive toys to keep her busy and to add insult to injury we have had to cut her food down because of course she is not doing anything!   I don’t know who is going to be more mad by the end of six weeks her or I!

I did say to DH whether it is a good idea for us to go on vacation!!!  Here are a few more pictures.

One of the day we woke to find mist over the mountains which cleared when the sun broke through.

The heather was coming out which we think was because it had been so dry.

We had lots of fluffy white clouds

On the road from the cottage to the main road there is an area which reminds me very much of The Game of Thrones sets that were used especially The North!  Below are some pictures I took.

The Highland cows were in the field, last year’s baby!

One of this year’s babies!

A tiny Christmas tree.  Needs to grow a bit before it can be dressed!

I went to The Festival of Quilts on the Sunday after we got back on the Saturday and I will show you those pictures tomorrow.  Sorry this has been a picture heavy post but hope you have enjoyed our vacation to The Highlands!

Have a great Friday.  Hugs & Love, Susie, DH & Coco xxx

Quilting Plans.

I am busy sorting out things to take away and as you know I take my sewing machine and quilting.  I have a few things which I need to get finished and as I did not get anything done last weekend I need to start my Christmas projects, so that will be going with me.  I have Eldest’s quilt to finish and another project for Youngest and when I told Eldest about it his respons was “I want one of those”!!!!!

They want me to make them each a wing cover, which as you can see covers the paintwork whilst they are leaning over to work on the engines.  I have found some excellent material for it so this will be another project I want to get done for their Christmas stockings!!!

I never managed to use this last year so this will be my Christmas projects.

I also have a very large clip box full of scraps which I intend to cut and size so I can make a quilt for us!!  Eventually!

What I have to be careful of is taking too much of course!!  Especially as Coco is coming with us, with all her stuff!

Today I have been working and trying to get things sorted and tomorrow is home job day and grocery shopping and also a few baskets of ironing to get done so that the weekend we can got those other home jobs sorted!  The weather is due to be warm but raining so that will be handy doing jobs although we may have to work around the showers getting the garden sorted!

I hope you lovely lot are having a Thrilling Thursday!

Hugs & Love, Susie & Coco.

As it is Thursday so #TBT picture is our Boys from 2011 on vacation aged 11 and 15.

Here Again.

Well June passed by in a blur of work, social things, family and Birthdays.  In fact it flew by!  July looks like it is going to be the same, especially in the run up to our vacation in August which I am so looking forward to.

To All my American Friends & Follows Happy 4th of July.

Last week flew by in a blur as it was Carnival week and I hardly saw DH & The Boys with work and the events.  Saturday was the main day and it started for them at 5.00am and they got home around 9.00pm.  Yesterday was a sort out day and bed early as we were all shattered.  I have been quilting and I will show you the two quilts when they are finished.  Just have to do the bindings now!

It is the second week of Wimbledon Fortnight and we have had some great Tennis already with a few quick exits of some top names.  The weather has been up and down with quite a few showers but with the two roofs now the matches are being completed.  Unfortunately we are busy this weekend so I will have to watch the finals when we get back!

I woke up this morning not feeling stellar for a Monday but I think it is just because of being up early and then up late too!!!  Hopefully by the weekend I will be feeling more normal.

Tomorrow for Coco’s Corner we will have a little show and tell but this was taken yesterday evening when Youngest took her for her walk.  She is looking very grown up.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a good week to come.

Busy Weekend.

Well the country celebrated HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over a long four day weekend.  DH was commentating at The Beacon Lighting in our local area on Thursday which went off with, as can only happen here in the UK, a few issues!!  People who were due to entertain did not turn up (!) but the weather held and the actual Beacon was lit which did not happen at another event, where they had to call the Fire Brigade to actually light it!!!!

The Goring, where we stay, all decked out for The Jubilee.

DH and I got a few jobs done but after several busy weekends and our Business celebration were were shattered so we did not get as many things done as we would have liked, hey ho!  The weather wasn’t too bad but you know how they say that Global Warming is going to make are summers hotter and hotter, well not this year!  It has been really quite cold on some days, including yesterday when the rain set in.  DH was down at our Village park commentating, he left at 9.00am in the morning and did not get back until 7.00pm.  It went well and everyone enjoyed it.  I stayed home and got some quilting done and looking after Miss Coco as both The Boys were out too.

The Night of the Concert and the Drones say Thank You Ma’am.

This week is busy as DH is down at The NEC for yet another business exhibition which was obviously cancelled over the last two years.  Like Swimming the exhibitions are trying to get in, in case anything happens again, but at least this is only three days! This is Saturday’s adventure my Birthday present from 2020 and can’t wait.  It is in Birmingham so only an hour away and we will get some dinner beforehand.  Sunday the four of us are going out for Sunday lunch for my Birthday.  This is all happening a week before my actual birthday because we are all busy that weekend!!!  I don’t mind it makes my Birthday last longer!!!!!!

I hope you all had a great weekend and the weather was kind to you.  Tomorrow will be Miss Coco’s first day on Coco’s Corner (!) and this Friday I will catch up with the Books I have been reading for Book Club!  Have a great week you lovely lot.

Hugs & Love, Susie xx

The State Coach which took part in the Parade yesterday.

Summer’s Here!

Yes June 1st arrived and we are officially into the Summer Months and it is great.  Although being in Britain it can be really cold too, so we have to hope that we get some lovely warm sunshine!  Especially some long lazy sunny days where I can spend the day reading outside.  What can be better than that?

It is also Friday and a Summer Friday at that, what could be better?

As things have got better a lot of events which have been cancelled over the last two years are happening now and it is great to see, with people coming out and supporting them.   Our Carnival begins in three weeks time,  I am off to my Birthday present from 2020 next weekend to see the Band Queen & Adam Lambert in Concert in Birmingham which I am really looking forward to.  The four of us are also going out for Sunday lunch for my Birthday, as the actual day is a Monday (dreadful day to have your Birthday on!).  I also have a trip to the Spa arranged which should have been towards the end of June but I had to re-arrange it due to Coco’s arrival but looking forward to that.  Tom & the Boys are out at a car show the following weekend so it will just be Coco and I at home, so probably a takeaway and film night in store for me.  Then that will be June over with!!!

My very good friend Jayne and I, our Birthdays are a week apart so we usually try and go out for lunch between the two dates and are hoping this year to go over to Nottingham to have a look at some of the stores and have a nice lunch then.  I bet you it will be raining though!!!

In July we have our second swimming Open for the younger swimmers and we also have a family Christening which has been moved three times!  DH has a couple of commentating events on then we have a couple of weekends left to do some jobs at home and in the garden before we go away for two weeks to Scotland again in August and can’t wait!  Then it will be Eldest’s Birthday and before we know it September and Autumn will arrive.  Boy how the year flies, especially when you are having fun! Again not complaining after what we have all gone through in the last two years.

Whatever you lovely lot are up to this Summer I hope it is a really good one for you.

London All Dressed Up.

London is putting on it’s finest for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee being celebrated this coming weekend.  Here are a few pictures of the various decorations.

Oxford Street & Regent Street adorned with Union Jacks.

Big Ben has had all the scaffolding removed in time for the Jubilee after it’s £80m restoration over the last five years.  Interestingly Big Ben actually refers to the Bell in the Tower which was originally called The Clock Tower when it was built in 1834, but renamed The Elizabeth Tower for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.  Anyway it looks splendid in the Spring sunshine!

The Goring Hotel ready for the Jubilee.  We had a wonderful Afternoon Tea here with dishes from the original Afternoon Tea of 1953 when several Royals from Europe stayed here during The Coronation.

Lots of shops, offices and buildings are also decorated to celebrate 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II Reign.

We have Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off as a Nation to celebrate and there are lots of street parties happening.  DH is commentating on the Beacon Lighting event happening in our area and on Sunday there is a village event on the Park where he is again commentating.  I am hoping that the weather is going to be kind and we can get some gardening done and finish off the final bits of Spring Cleaning.

London Day 2.

Tuesday evening DH and I went to The Globe located on the other side of the River.  Shakespeare’s Original Globe Theatre was built in 1599 by The Chamberlain’s Men Playing Company, on land owned by Thomas Brend. It sadly burnt down in 1613 but a new Globe was built in 1614 but closed in 1642.  This new Globe was built 750 feet from where the 1599 Globe was built and opened in 1997.  All the Globes were built as a Wooden “O” with a 360° auditorium with no roof over the central yard and stage.  There are galleries and if you can get a seat under one of these it does give a bit of protection from the weather as performances go ahead rain or shine.

Our seats and you can hire cushions to make it a little more comfortable!

The beam work which forms the next gallery up.

The Stage is set and the audience standing in the yard.

DH and I went to see Shakespeare’s “Henry VIII” with a modern twist and it was very good but also very cold!!!!

The outside of The Globe.

We had had Afternoon Tea at our hotel at 4.00pm with a business colleague and so had dinner when we got back to the hotel after the play.  It was a long day but really enjoyed it and we had to be up early on the Wednesday for the flower show.

Tomorow I will show you some pictures of London decorated for The Jubilee!
