Our Two Boys – Eldest & Youngest and what they have been and are up to!

#TBT.

Nat Hist Museum

This was twelve years ago and at the National History Museum in London.  DH had to go to London on business and so I took the Boys down as well and we did some of the museums.  In fact we probably did all the museums several times over the years as they grew and as their interests changed and related to work they were doing at school.  They loved this visit, despite Eldest’s face, it was the Friday at the end of a very long week of early mornings and being on the go all day.

Eldest was 10 and Youngest was six. I loved them at this age (I love them now of course!) as they still wanted you to help them with things and were happy to hold your hand and be with you.  Of course as soon as they hit teenage it all changes but this was a great time.

Eldest and Girlfriend came for dinner last night and it was great to spend time with them, Youngest was with us for a while but he had to go coaching for an hour.  This morning DH left at early o’clock (5.00am) to get to a customer and avoid all the traffic.  Treacle and I did not get up that early but not long after.

I am on track to get all my jobs done today and tomorrow so that I can spend the weekend quilting.  In fact I am going to have my own quilt retreat, only appearing for tea or lunch breaks and of course to feed and sort Treacle out!  My quilting room is very tidy at the moment as well and just need to tidy up some more of the “sewing repairs” and it will be quilting only!!!!

I hope you are having a Thrilling Thursday and have some fun things happening at the weekend.  I hope everyone who has a bad cold or flu at the moment feel better soon.  Several people I have met over the last week have not been well and I am trying hard to stay out of their way and stay healthy.

Happy Thursday everyone

Hugs, Susie xx

#TBT!

Throwback Thursday today and this is from 2006, Youngest was six, Eldest was ten and DH was well…..  I won’t say!!!!  Taken in Scotland on our summer holiday, although the weather does not look good with mist over the mountains.

I know I say this every time I do one of these Throwbacks but where does the time go?  In fact I quite often cannot look at the pictures from when the Boys were little, although I do love looking at them but I then get sad that they are not this little any more!!!  I love them to bits now as I did then, but then they relied on you for everything and now, of course, they are completely self-sufficient.

Anyway I had better get on before I cannot do any more work because of the tears!!!!

Happy Thursday everyone, tomorrow’s Friday.

Youngest’s Room Makeover

We have finally finished his room after the last piece of furniture was delivered.  So here is what he had before in 2011 when he was aged 11 and just going to Senior School.

He had his bed this way round so he could have a reading chair in the corner with a lamp.

The wall behind his bed.

Bookshelf and inevitable junk of an 11 year old!

His desk with all the electronics.

His wardrobe with all the games on it.

So now being almost 18 he wanted it to be more sophisticated and less stuff!

His new bed, with his quilt!

Bedside cabinet and new wardrobe.

Where his bed used to be with his guitar and less stuff!

His desk and drawers still in the same place but again with less equipment on it.

New bookshelves and less baggage!

New chest of drawers for all his jumpers/t-shirts/jeans etc.

Behind his door; shelves for all his books/dvds/games etc and his jackets.

It is very tidy at the moment but that may change and I also think that a few more pictures may appear over time but he loves it so that is the main thing.  I am not very keen on the black furniture but it was his choice.  I am glad it is finally done and I also now have my dining room and our room back!!!

I am still sorting through odd things and getting rid of things I don’t want/need/like and it is true what they say it does give you a great freeing feeling!

It is Girlfriend’s Birthday tomorrow and then Friday it is Goose Fair!!!  Saturday evening it is the first of the swimming club’s championships and we are hoping that the weather is going to be good to get the final bits done in the garden.  I also want to plant some Spring bulbs in the pots.

I know today should be Wednesday Wag but Treacle is off playing with Youngest as he is at home today and not at college!!  She will be back next week.

Hugs, Susie x

It’s Friday but where did Thursday Go?

I really am glad to see Friday this week.  It’s been a long week yet I don’t seem to have achieved much in it!  DO you get weeks like that?  Yes work got done and jobs got done and everyone got fed and clothes got washed and Treacle got fed but I still don’t feel as if it was a stellar week!  Probably because the weather has been yuck too.  In fact I have even, today, succumbed to switching the heating on, which must tell you how bad it is.  I have sat at my desk all week freezing!!!!!

This is the garden yesterday starting to look very much like Autumn and the sky was very blue but it was not warm.

Even the moon was still up when I took this picture just before lunch at 12.00pm.

The weekend is supposed to be a little better with no rain which will give us a chance to get those garden jobs done and house jobs (they did not get done this week either!).  Youngest is teaching/coaching at the swimming club at various time and DH will probably have to go up as well, they are both having their haircut tomorrow, Eldest had his done last night and then DH has a business meeting on Sunday morning (!) hopefully for not too long.  The house still looks like a bomb has hit it with Youngest’s things still all over the place, but his new furniture arrives next week so hopefully he will all be sorted by then.  But I am taking back Eldest’s room and sorting it out as I need to get on with my quilting, especially Evalyn’s which is for October!!!!!!!

As you can see from the above picture it has not taken Treacle long to “discover” Youngest’s new bed!!!!  This was this morning after they had left for work and college!!!!  I will add that there are decorative pillows and cushions to go on the bed which are stacked next to the bed as he obviously could not be bothered to put them back on the bed this morning!!!!!  Boys!

Talking Christmas (!) I have started three projects that are going to be Christmas gifts this year!  Are you impressed?  It was one of those “I saw the material and it inspired me” to make these gifts rather than trying to make something because it is Christmas.  They will be able to be used all year and I can’t wait to show them to you but I won’t be able to until after Christmas!!!!  Boy it seems a long way off yet but I know the weeks will fly by and I know Treacle ratted me out the other day but I have bought a Christmas ornament which I am now thinking I will also get as gifts for some other friends!!!

I love it really!!!  And an advert on TV last night for Movies24 becoming Christmas24 and this year it is starting on October 21st!!!!  Which is even earlier than last year!  Soon they will be showing Christmas movies all day everyday from June!!!!!!

Anyway I had better go as I have lots to do and I do hope everyone has a wonderful weekend whatever you are up to.

Happy Hugs, Susie x

PS I am not going to mention what has happened in London again today!  I am being an ostrich and hiding my head in the sand and only thinking happy thoughts!

Manic Monday!

We had a lovely weekend.  I had coffee with Jayne on Friday and we caught up on all our family news before they are off on vacation this weekend.  I then went to see our friend who is not very well and she was feeling a little better, having been diagnosed with vertigo.

Saturday we went to our friends for dinner with two other couples and our hosts.  This dinner was a re-creation of a dinner held in 1992 when our hosts first moved to the area for business.  The Guys were all in Round Table and the Girls were all in Ladies Circle and our hosts, Anne & Christopher, had just moved to the area and joined Table and Circle.  They were renting this huge house in the village which had a formal dining room and the biggest dining table you have ever seen.  We had all brought lots of wine and we spent the whole evening talking and laughing and it only ended at 4.30 in the morning with the birds singing.

On Saturday we were working out how long we had all known each other, twenty five years for Anne & Chris, for the other two couples, Christine & Pete and Val and Dave we have known them for twenty eight years!!!!  Of course that just made us all feel old, so we moved on to other topics!!!!

We also had to sort out Eldest as his car decided to not work whilst he was on his way back from college!!!  The car came back on a low loader to our house and it will be going into the garage tomorrow!!!  We had fun pushing it up the drive (not) and into the garage but managed to get it in there!!!

Youngest has been filming again all day today for “Victoria” in Rotherham and left at 6.00am!  He is really enjoying the days.  DH has been busy with work and out all day and I got to go grocery shopping!!!!

I am trying to get the next quilt finished this week and sorted and have got to get some things for Evalyn’s quilt including some plastic to make a template so I can cut out the blocks!!!!  This will be interesting.

This week we have appointments, DH and I had our eyes tested last week and Youngest has an appointment next week, I have to visit the Physio again to see how things are going with my hip and then on Friday I have arranged for a spa day for me, Treacle is going next week.  Youngest is away all next weekend at a car show and he is camping so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain.  DH and I will be hopefully getting the last jobs done in the house and garden before we go away the following weekend.

I hope everyone had a lovely summer weekend and a Happy Monday.

Hugs, Susie xx

It’s Friday!

Yes well we made it to Friday relatively unscathed!  I have had two dreadful days and not feeling much better today either, just when I was on top of eveything, it does not take long for it all to fall apart!!!!

Yep Youngest has finished his first year at college and so is now off for seven weeks, yeah!!!  Of course he is busy for the first weekend of it!!!!  We have also broken up for two weeks from Swimming!!!!! Put the Flags Out!!!!!!

This is what Eldest and Girlfriend have been up to today!  It was Girlfriend’s Graduation after four years at Nottingham University, she has Graduated with a 2:1 in French.  Don’t they look smart!  Many Congratulations to Sophie!

Youngest is out all day today filming for a University Student’s final year project, he is playing a Vampire called Dave !!!!  He is then staying at his friends overnight in Nottingham as they are all going to an all day concert at Wollaton Hall in Nottingham tomorrow (its going to rain) and then Sunday he is out again all day at a car thing! So we will probably see him on Monday!

DH and I have nothing planned for tonight or tomorrow but we are out Sunday for Brunch with some friends which will be nice.

I am just getting myself sorted to get house jobs done and then a basket of ironing, so exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone has a lovely summer weekend.

#TBT

Okay everywhere you look in Blog Land at the moment it is “Christmas in July” so here is a Christmas picture of The Boys from 2008!  They were nine and thirteen!!!!

I have been trying to read all the blogs which are taking part in the Christmas in July but have only managed a few, so am hoping to hop around at the weekend and visit them.  There are also Christmas movies playing on Movies 24 so they are joining in too!!!  It does seem strange though watching a Christmas movie when it is 70° outside, but I suppose those who live in the Southern Hemisphere are used to it!!!!  To me Christmas should be cold, frosty and hopefully snowy!

I do hope you are having a Thrilling Thursday.

Hugs, Susie x

#TBT!

I start looking at pictures for Throw Back Thursday and can while away quite a few hours looking at them all!

I thought I would show you a couple of projects we did in the Boys rooms during 2006, when they were younger.

This was Eldest’s room, typical little boys room (extremely messy!) and we decided to swap the Boys rooms over as Eldest was going to Senior School and Youngest needed more room for playing (he was in the smaller room).  This was in June of 2006 and the Boys were 11 and 7.

This is the built in desk DH made for him. Already for the new school year and homework!

A comfy chair to sit and read in.

So we gave him a more grown up room, albeit in the smaller room, but he loved it and this is his room still today, well with me camping in it as a sewing room.

This was Youngest’s and yes he still has as much stuff!!!!  But he really was running out of room.

Here is Youngest in his Train Carriage Bed reading. The end of the bed was solid but with a window cut out so he could see the trains running on the track. All train carriages need some steps to get into them!

Youngest’s desk, which he still has today.

Here is Youngest’s room when we had finished.  We had asked him what he wanted in his room and his only request was a bed off the floor.  Now Eldest had had a loft bed but that had gone a few years prior and again as he got bigger he outgrew it, so I came up with the idea to make a bed like a railway carriage (they both loved trains and the big trainset was in this room), so I drew the style, DH did the calculations and woodwork and I painted it.  He loved it and it stayed like that until he went to Secondary School five years later.

I do so love looking at photographs and especially seeing the Boys when they were little.

The Country is voting today in our General Election to see who will be the party to take us through Brexit and beyond and who will be Prime Minister!  Oh Boy!

I have had a so, so day (unfortunately not sew, sew!!!) and Treacle is on the mend I think.  Tomorrow is house jobs day and grocery shopping and Girlfriend is coming round for a cup of coffee so I am looking forward to that.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Hugs, Susie x

Sometimes.

Some days it is hard to find words, that have not all been said before, to describe the feelings about such a senseless act.   We are thinking of all the people affected by last night’s atrocity.

1927 – 2017

Also in the news Sir Roger Moore, the third actor to play James Bond, another National Treasure passed away today!   Not a good day at all in some ways.

However, here is Youngest (on the right in the picture) dressed as a Court Clerk for his second day as an Extra on the TV Series Victoria.

This is a headless picture as he does not like the look of his hair, which is flattened with oil and very heavy on his forehead!!!!!  I love the costume though.  The week before he was playing a French soldier!!!

The above picture is from the first Series of Victoria during the Coronation scene (which one of the Boys former Head of Year was playing an Extra!).  Can’t wait for the second series to begin, probably in the Autumn, and spend the time trying to spot Youngest.

Treacle is loving the weather at the moment and has spent all of the morning and most of this afternoon here!!!

Lots of Hugs today for everyone, Susie x

Arctic Thursday!

Today is like the Arctic here and the heating has gone on again!!!  Of course I knew this would happen as Treacle has had her haircut!!!!  She has spent most of the day curled up on Youngest’s bed and everytime I saw her, she was scowling at me!!!!

Here is the picture for TBT of Eldest and Youngest ten years ago, aged 11 and 7 at Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness.  As you can see the weather is sunny but cool but not as cold as today!!!!  I love these two to bits!

I have spent the day at my desk and tomorrow I have house jobs to do and a basket of ironing and hopefully get some quilting done as well.

I hope you are having a Thrilling Thursday

Hugs, Susie x
