As promised here are some pictures of the two baby Quilts I have managed to get done.
This one is for a good friend whose little boy was born in May. I have not seen him yet but hopefully after our vacation I will get to see them.
I just loved this fabric especially for little boys with a farmyard theme, tractors and farm animals. It is a little different to the other baby quilts I have made in the past, but I wanted a change. DH helping with the photographs.
For the back I bought some more of the tractor & truck fabric.
The quilt below is very similar and is for Baby Oscar who is Partner’s Great Nephew.
Again I used the farmyard fabric and added in some reds, greens and yellows.
The backing for this one I used this lovely cow fabric to make it different to the other one. I have already given this one to Oscar for when he is doing tummy time or under his baby gym.
The bed quilt I have managed to get the side pieces done and am just about to sort the fabric out for the backing, then I will need to sandwich it and get the quilting done. I am going to do half of it then turn it round and do the other half which I think will be the best way with my machine. I will just then need to bind it and I will be able to gift that. I have plans for my Christmas gifts to get done but I also have some sewing repairs which I need to get done before we go away as well. I think I might sneak tomorrow off and get the quilt done. I am still working on a full size quilt for Little Man and still working on a quilt for DH and I and a Snoopy quilt for me! They will get done eventually!!!
I was at Eldest’s work today as he is busy tomorrow and also has a dental check up and then Thursday it is home jobs day! I hope you lovely lot are having a good Tuesday and week so far.
Not that we have been to Church today, too many jobs to do! There was no post yesterday either because I went to Partner’s home and spent the day sewing with the Girls. I was saying that it is quite hard explaining something which you do automatically because you have been doing it for so long. Anyway they did very well, we made tote bags, and they sat and listened and did very well with the sewing. I had already cut out the squares 5″ x 5″ squares and once they had completed the top I brought them home and I quilted them and made them up this morning, beginning at 4.00am (I am going through another one of those phases of waking up anywhere between 2.00am and 4.00am!). Here are some pictures of the day.The Girls above sewing and playing with the fabric.
Me making sure Eldest sews in a straight line below.
Here are the bags completed, above is Eldest’s and below is Youngest’s.
It is a Missourri Star Quilt Company pattern from one of their YouTube tutorials. I found it quite a while ago and have made quite a few of these now, including one for myself. I also adapted the pattern for the Christmas presents I made for the market totes for DH’s Cousins and my best friend Jayne, below. I want to make one of these for myself and I think Partner and Fiancé would like one too, I am going to add them to my ever growing list!!!!!
Today I have been at Eldest’s garage working, as well as cleaning there and tomorrow I have all my home jobs to do, as well as washing & ironing to get done and grocery shopping too. Tomorrow I will show you Jayne & My lunch on Tuesday. It was okay but I don’t think we will go again. Happy Thursday everyone.
I should learn not to say things and then perhaps it won’t happen!!! I said last week I should be able to post every day and after Tuesday the week got away from me, like an escapee hamster!!!! Wednesday I was at Eldest’s working and that took the whole day and into the evening! Thursday was home jobs day and it took me all day to sort things out and Friday DH and I were Babysitting Little Man, I think we wore him out. You know the adage of “it takes a village…” well we were the village and in the evening Youngest & Fiancé came round and we all had dinner which was lovely.
Have been quilting still with these lovely fabrics above but I cannot show you the final quilt yet as it is not quite finished. Speaking of quilting this popped into my in-box today;
Apparently My Blog “has been selected by our Panelists as one of the Top 30 UK Quilting Blogs on the Web.”! It has made my day, especially as my Blog does not always have quilting on it, just my crazy life! The above is the badge I can use on my Blog as well. Although I am trying to do more quilting this year as well as more reading too!
The first weekend of April, DH has no swimming events this month yeah, we got some jobs done at home but also had a relaxing weekend too as we needed it after a very busy March. Next weekend the weather is supposed to be warm and sunny so I think we will try and get indoor and outdoor jobs done. Friday we are babysitting Little Man again and I have an hair appointment and Coco has her Spa day too so that will be a busy day as well.
Over the Easter break we are hoping to get Youngest’s old room painted and then be able to furnish it as our guest room. We already have “bookings” for it with Fiancé, along with Blaze & Gordon, coming to stay in July when the Boys are all away for the weekend. We also need to paint our room, but I think we will put that off until the next long weekend.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend and a good week to come.
Have you had chance to do any quilting today? I haven’t, although I was planning on it but things changed yesterday so I did not get my home jobs done. Today I got it all done and the washing & ironing whilst DH and Eldest were on their day trip. Tonight we had the final round of the swimming league and our Club came third out of six and the swimmers did really well and had a great time.
Tomorrow will be my Quilting day.
I have started to make the blocks for the double bed quilt which needs to be done for May and I also need to cut the baby quilt out that is also needed for May. I also have plans for two other single bed quilts which I need to get done for September and October this year as well as planning for Christmas as well. I also need to plan for a quilt which will be needed for next year and I have about four things which need completing and yes I have about two quilts for me that I want to do at some point!!!!
Do you find that you have plans to make quilts for yourself but then get over taken by quilts required for other people? I have really enjoyed my quilting over the last two weeks and need to keep the momentum going!
Have a wonderful weekend and hope you get time to do some quilting either today or tomorrow.
I know it is New Year but I cannot resist one final picture of our Christmas Tree. We have taken our decorations down and cleaned our home from top to bottom, all the washing & ironing is up to date and put away and I am even up to date with all my work. I hate taking the decorations down as each room when it is back to normal looks really drab after all the fairy lights and Christmas things are put away. I know we have to do it and we get to put them put later this year but still!!!!!
Youngest & Partner out for a walk and it was snowing!
I did go out at 7.15am to go to work at Eldest’s but overnight we had had really low temperatures, with ice and frost. Long story short I could not get any of my car doors open as they were all frozen shut!!! The only way to get them open is to use warm water but this, of course, instantly freezes on the driveway and road which I was not prepared to do. However a neighbour, who is very awkward and no one likes, did exactly this and left a swathe of ice outside of his house and going down our hill! He did not even put salt on it to get rid of it! Anyway I decided to go back into our home and get warm and I contacted Eldest who said that it was really very icy where they are and then he had to go on a call out with the FIre to a road traffic accident so I am glad I did not go in the end. To be fair there was not a lot to do because of being off for Christmas so I will catch up next week.
A couple of pictures from the Fireworks at New Year in London.
So having a day extra at our work I got some jobs done which I had put off and tomorow it will be home jobs again and Friday I am out with DH visiting one of the companys we work with. At the weekend we have another swimming event on Saturday evening but during the day and Sunday we will be able to get some de-cluttering done. We will begin with the garage and also tidy it up and then move on to our attic and go from there.
This is the fabric for the double bed quilt.
I will also be busy cutting out one of the quilts that I need to get on with and start making the blocks for that. I am also keeping up with my first Aim of the New Year which is to do more reading. I have also sorted out my TBR shelf which has now turned into three shelves as I have spread them out a bit so I am able to see them all and have put them into categories. I don’t know about you but when I finish a book I then decide what sort of book to read next be it a mystery or a history book etc. At the moment I am busy reading all my Christmas mystery books which I love and I don’t mind reading them even at the height of summer!!!!
It has been so cold at night, when our heating is turned down, over the last few days that Coco has been tucked up on our bed between DH and I. The other evening when I got up she was really cold so I put the blanket we have at the bottom of our bed over her and she loved it and was fast asleep.
I hope you lovely lot have had a good first week of January (most of us have been back to work this week). Thursday tomorrow, it will soon be the weekend!
Hugs & Love, Susie & Coco xx
Little Man on Christmas Day amidst all the presents!
I did get a little bit of Quilting done before Christmas for presents for my family and best friends.
I decided to make for the ladies in my family and best friends Market Totes. Basically a patchwork bag but huge for shopping!
I loved how they turned out and am going to make one for myself when I get a minute!
For My Boys Partners, I call them my Daughter-in-laws although they are not married yet, I made them a mat each of a present block.
I have a plan later in the year to make a single bed quilt with present blocks but that is after I have made two quilts that I need to begin now which are required early in the year. In fact DH is taking me down to the Quilt Shop in Northampton on Friday to get the material. I don’t know about you, those that quilt, but sometimes you just have to see the material before buying it, especially as one of them has a particular colour request.
Sadly the two quilt shops in Derbyshire closed and the one in Northampton, The Bramble Patch, is the next closest with a great selection of material but it is only about an hour and half away so it will be a nice little trip and we will get some breakfast beforehand.
I will hopefully get to show you the material after Friday. They are forecasting snow for the UK over the next few days and the weekend again and we are hoping that it will be okay for Sunday and the Swimming Club Open which is in Matlock and could be interesting getting there. The first time we ever ran this event it snowed the night before but everyone got there which was a relief! We shall see how things play out. This morning it was very cold and frosty with the windscreens all covered over! I have a few home jobs to do today.
I hope you lovely lot had a wonderful New Year and a great start to 2025.
I know don’t faint, some quilting here on my Quilting Blog!!! I know it is ages since I managed to get some done! This was actually a finish too, so a double win.
This is a Baby Quilt for our Boys Godparents, their first Grandchild a little Girl called Darcie.
It has been a year in the making as we did not know that they were expecting so it has taken a while to get it made, quilted and finished because of everything else going off, including the arrival of our Little Man!
As we knew she was a little girl I wanted to use some fabric which was particularly girly and this is Lewis & Irene – Celtic Faeries. I love the colours and the whimsy of it.
This is the back above.
I now have Eldest’s quilt to finish which will take a while longer as it is a King size quilt for their bed!!! I have been doing the above quilt’s binding in the evening whilst dinner has been cooking and also after dinner too and it has been done quickly so am planning on doing his the same way.
This weekend we have our swimming club’s Open tomorrow from 7.00am and then DH is out on Sunday at another Club’s Open! I will spend the day trying to get things tidy and organised for next week. It is a slow week which is great because the following weekend the Village Carnival starts for the week so I will not see a lot of DH but I am planning on getting the boxes from our attic sorted out during the week. I still have a long list of jobs to get done but I am slowly ticking them off and hope to get them all done by the end of this year.
Have a wonderful weekend. It looks like summer has arrived here for the time being as it is sunny and warm with no rain at the moment, but we are not shouting too loud about it, in case it changes again.
I realised when I had a lovely comment from Jo yesterday regarding my quilts that I have a few more to show you which I have not added to My Quilts page! So as you know this is supposed to be a quilting blog but has turned over the years into yes Quilting but also my crazy life! Anywho here are some quilts I have made but not shown you!
This is Little Man’s first quilt I have made for him. I just love the colours in this quilt and it is such a Boy quilt.
I got some lovely Christmas material a while ago which I did show you but I made them up for Christmas two years ago and sure enough they got put away separately to the Christmas decorations and we have not found them since, until we started to sort the attic out! Found them now!
I drape these over the back of chairs.
Our very good friends, Pat & Alan, bought a caravan to go on holiday after the Covid years and so for Alan’s Birthday I decided to make him a quilt for when they go in the van. I managed to get some caravan material and also some seaside material. I chose a blue spot to got with the blocks and on the back used some lovely green material that my very good friend Susan sent me. It really went very well with the blocks.
Pat, Alan’s wife, said it was too nice to go in the caravan!!!
I got the flower fabrics at The Festival of Quilts years ago. I don’t know about you but sometimes I have to wait for the right project to use a set of fabrics and this came to me when I found this grey checked fabric to make this little lap quilt. It was a House Warming gift for Chloe who is at The Spa I use and does all my Spa jobs.
I will put these onto My Quilts Page too. I love having them there to see what I have made over the years.

We got the painting of the kitchen, den, laundry and downstairs bathroom finished, although the house is still in a mess because we have not had time to clear everything up yet. DH was out all day yesterday at the swimming event so I am spending today to try and get things tidy again! We are hoping to get the little bit of painting done in the upstairs Bathroom at the weekend. We are planning on getting our room done at the long weekend at the end of May and then the dining room at the long weekend at the end of August! Well that is the plan. The sewing room is quite small and will be painted brilliant white so we might be able to get that done in a weekend, when we have one spare!!!
We have had high winds and rain here today. This little rat lied in February! Early Spring my eye! I am not sure if Spring is ever going to put in an appearance but we may just go straight into Summer! Thanks Phil for nothing!!!!
I hope you lovely lot had a wonderful weekend and a great week to come.
Ever since Eldest moved out and I have been camping in his room with my sewing things, I forgot to show you some pictures. Finally got around to doing some pictures. Coco in her basket in the room.
Eldest when he moved back, moved the room round so his desk which sat this way originally was moved to the other wall to get a kingsize bed in. Fortunately we had kept Youngest’s desk which was freestanding so put that here.
The shelves in the room with my things on which I think I have found most of them now, having packed it all up when Eldest moved back!
DH & The Boys bought me this a few years ago and finally I have been able to get it out and on display. I want to have a go using it but have too many things at the moment which need finishing before I can have a play.
Coco keeping an eye on things.
I bought these two chest of drawers from Ikea. They have two large drawers and two smaller ones and then the shelves. It has all my fabric in.
My ironing table.
I have a small DVD player and a monitor and sound bar to have things on when I am sewing. At the moment it is Dad’s Army. A great comedy programme from the 1970’s. For those that know the show this particular episode is the famous one with the phrase “Don’t tell him Pike!”
This is the blind over the window and a picture of Loch Mhor where we stay in Scotland and I had to have this Highland Cow clock!
DH bought me this for Christmas!! Very true.
Coco has three phases in her basket. Sitting, lying down and finally the all four feet in the air deep sleep. When she is in that position she actually snores!
Yes I know this is supposed to be a Quilting blog! Here are some quilty things; Thomas The Tank Engine fabric for a quilt for Tobey. You know I would just have to make one for him, as well as the other two I have material for!!!
I have a few other things to finish before I get on to this one.
I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday. Half way through the week!
Apparently today is “Blue Monday”!! This is because it is two weeks since Christmas and all the fun of that and still a week to go before people get paid and all the bills are coming due! I sometimes think that the media hype all this up so people do become depressed!!!
Anyway I saw this the other day and I have never seen one before and I thought how unusual our World is and hopefully if you are feeling blue today this will put a smile on your face.
This is the Shoebill Bird who although classed with storks is more from the heron/pelican family. They live in swamps in tropical East Africa. They are generally silent but will clatter their beaks near their nests. I think I like them as they have a very intelligent look to them and are so different to anything else.
DH had a busy weekend with two swimming events on Saturday and Sunday and he and I were at another swimming event on Saturday evening. The two day event was at the new 50m pool in Derby, picture above. Although a new facility which cost £45m for events there are a few problems. The main one being in the above picture you can see the black oblong in the top left of the picture; that is the scorboard and you can see where the spectators sit so to see the results you have to look left and lean forward! Normally they put the scoreboards opposite the seating!
I did get some quilting done, I made the backing for a baby quilt I need to get finished. I still need to do quite a bit of sorting and tidying in my sewing room. I put things away to just get them away but now can’t find things. However, now don’t say this too loudly, but for the next two weeks DH has no swimming events on!!!! We have two whole weekends in which to do things, not just jobs but things for ourselves too! In fact we are going out for dinner with the Boys Godparents on Saturday night.
As much as I don’t like January because it does seem dull after all the excitement of December and Christmas, I also love it because it is quiet and almost like hibernating. This week is a quiet week for work too, everyone is hibernating!!!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a great week to come.
Hugs & Love, Susie & Coco xx
