It is what it says – our Family!

So This Happened!

DH & Kev were both fine and walked away with just a couple of bruises!

This was Friday morning at 8.00am.  I was just getting in the shower when DH rang Eldest, who then managed to catch Youngest just before he left for work and we all headed over to Nottinghamshire.  DH had collected Kev from his garage where he had taken his car in for a service and were heading into the office when a van came out of a crossroads at high speed, he never stopped.  He hit DH’s truck in the side which sent it spinning, it then hit the curb which launched it into the air, took a branch off the poor tree and ended up in the field!

The Truck did a sterling job of protecting DH and Kev.  Of course everything in the back, tools, boxes etc were strewn across the kerb and field and we tried to collect as much as possible but some things were destroyed and lost.  Of course now the mountain of paperwork starts!

DH has his dashcam footage which shows what happened so hopefully we can resolve it quickly.  The truck was only two years old so the next issue will be trying to find a new one, especially with the current chip shortage and lack of new vehicles being built.

The rest of the weekend was taken up with sorting things out and we had a swimming event on Saturday evening and I spent most of yesterday catching up on the ironing which I was going to do on Friday!!!  Today is house job day, which again should have been done on Friday (!), as DH is on his way south to the first business exhibition of the year and which of course has not been held for two years because of Covid.  Things always happen at the worst time!!!!

How was your weekend?  🙂

Tomorrow I am out being a “ladies who lunch” with Jayne which I am so looking forward to and I have a few other errands to run later in the week.  I hope you lovely lot have a great week.

Celebration.

Youngest decided he wanted to stay in for his Birthday, so we had a takeaway dinner and then he opened his presents as he had been at work all day.

Biscuits.

I don’t know if you have ever noticed in this day and age of how things are updated/upgraded and changed every month it seems sometimes, biscuits have not changed ever!!!!

I was filling up our biscuit tin the other day with DH & The Boys favourites when I realised that these were the biscuits I used to eat when I was little and my Grandmother used to buy!!  Obviously I am in the UK and I am sure that wherever you are in the World your biscuits are different but here are the ones which seemed to have transcended time:

Chocolate Digestive Biscuits DH & The Boys favourite!

Rich Tea Biscuits My Favourite

Ginger Nut Biscuits – DH

Malted Milk Biscuits – My favourite when I was little and Treacle loves them!

Bourbon biscuits (no alcohol in them) DH & Youngest loves these

Custard Creams – Everyone loves these

Jammy Dodgers – Eldest’s favourite

I am sure if you showed these pictures to our Grandparents and even Great-Grandparents  they would recognise them!!!!

When our Boys were little, and still now I suppose, buying biscuits at the supermarket really made me feel like a Mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Biscuity Sunday.

It’s Friday, It’s The Weekend!

Yes we have made it to Friday, it was touch and go there for a while!!!!!! Saying that the weather is supposed to be dreadful with rain most days and possible thunder storms tomorrow!  However tomorrow for me it will be :

Eldest is working and DH & Youngest are off out to a car museum so Treacle and I have our home to ourselves, so I am going to spread out over my desk, DH’s desk, the kitchen breakfast bar, the laundry and anywhere else with all my sewing things.  In fact I may even get it out tonight so I am all ready tomorrow!    I have so much to do; bindings to make and get sewn on to the quilts; quilts to cut out; quilts to plan and of course quilts to finish!!!  I will be making a list of course!!!!  I am sure Treacle will be busy helping especially as she will be unable to go out if the weather is bad.

I will have pictures on Monday!  Also want to do some reading, that has got missed this week due to all the chaos!!

I hope you lovely lot have a wonderful weekend whatever you have planned and the weather is kind to you.  DH and I are out tonight for dinner with some friends who we haven’t seen for over a year and it will be great to catch up on all their news.

Stay safe.

Thursday!

As we are in Lockdown again not a lot is happening with us!!  I spend most of my days working of course and opening the front door to deliveries for everyone, including Treacle (her food arrrived!).

So as it is now 36 days to go to the Big Day and #TBT,  I thought I would show you some Christmas pictures from 2005!!! Youngest was six and Eldest was ten.

Yougnest helping decorate the Christmas tree.

DH and Eldest on the steam train waiting to see Santa.

Youngest and I on the train.

The two of them with Santa.

I got all of my ironing finished yesterday and tomorrow I have home jobs to do and at the moment, fingers crossed, the weather is still okay for the weekend to get those last few jobs done in the garden.  We also need to get all our winter clothes out and put the summer ones away!  It was distinctly cold this morning when Treacle went out!  My wrist is a little better today and I am trying not to use the support, it is still a little swollen though.  I still want to try and get some other jobs done as well over the weekend, number one being sorting out my quilting!   I will let you know how I get on.

I am sure the Boys have car things planned for the weekend, they do most weekends, and Treacle will be spending the day going between us all, so will be really tired by the end of it!!!  She uses the week to catch up on the sleep she misses out on at the weekend!

I do hope you lovely lot are having a Thrilling Thursday.

#TBT

For #TBT today this was thirty two years ago!  It sounds an awfully long time when you say thirty two but like yesterday in real terms!  Yes it is our Wedding Anniversary today.

This was two year’s ago at Chatsworth House at Christmas!!!  The main difference being my curly hair!  Well it was the 80’s and we all had curly hair!!!!!!

Happy Anniversary DH!

Yeah It’s Friday!

It was a typical November morning when I got up at 6.00am with thick fog blanketing us.  DH had the day off with Eldest doing car things and sorting out our garage as he has bought another car as a “project” just as Youngest had got rid of his “project” car. However Youngest has kept the engine so that he and his brother can rebuild it, which will also help Youngest with his college work.  The garage will be tidy at least.

I have had one of those days where I started work after I had made lunch for everyone and they had left for work and I got wrapped up doing tasks and next time I looked up it was lunch time!!!  I did not get all the things done that I wanted to but I am getting there!  The weekend is supposed to be okay weather wise even if it is foggy so we can get those jobs done in the garden as well as some at home.  We are going to let our fireworks off tomorrow night and have hot dogs for dinner like we did when the Boys were small!

Geoffrey Palmer 1927 – 2020

Sad news today of the passing of Geoffrey Palmer who stared with Dame Judy Dench in the BBC comedy show “As Time Goes By” about two people who knew each other in their early twenties who then meet again in their early sixties and begin a relationship.  It was a great show and Geoffrey Palmer was great with Judy Dench.  If you can get to watch it do, you will love it.

Sunday I am planning on sorting out my quilting and get things organised to get it done and also sort out the final bits for Eldest’s Memory Books.  I can then get Youngest’s sorted and hopefully get them finished before Christmas.  One benefit of another Lockdown I have time to do all this so in that it is a good thing!!!!!

I will get some pictures of the garden over the weekend and Treacle will have to get used to local walks again instead of longer ones at the weekend.  We usually take her up to Chatsworth for a walk around the park or the gardens but obviously can’t at the moment.  Hopefully soon or over Christmas but who knows.

I also want to do some planning for Christmas too and get some more of my endless lists made!!  We also need to get all the Winter clothes out and put away the summer ones, especially as it is getting cooler now.

Whatever you are up to this weekend I hope you have a lovely time.

Monday!

Monday again!  It does come round quickly!!!  DH and I were really busy again over the weekend with the swimming sessions.  The Friday night one is two hours and one of the parents has been going to the Chinese takeaway across the road and getting chips for the swimmers for when they come out,  I think it is the only thing keeping them going on a Friday night!

We were also at swimming on Saturday morning and when we got back home doing all the jobs I didn’t get done in the week!!!  It was a manic day and then had to go to the swimming session on Saturday evening too!  By the time we got home I was shattered.

Sunday Girlfriend was competing with Penny.  It was a lovely day and it was so nice to be outside at an event and not to have to wear a face mask!!!  Here are a few pictures of the day.

First session waiting to compete.

Back having completed a double clear round.

Second session, actually on the round.

Over the Jumps!

Fast around the jumps and another double clear!

Overall they came third and fourth which as it is only Penny’s fourth event was really good.  They are competing again next week.  It now looks like we are going to be horse people as well as swimming people!!!!

The weather is beginning to turn here and although they have promised some warm weather hopefully at the end of this week, you can feel that Autumn is starting to make itself known with a chill in the air in the evening and early mornings!

You know I was talking about Christmas?  Well when I was doing my grocery shopping at the weekend there were mince pies, Christmas puddings and cakes and other Christmas goodies in the bakery aisle!!!  It is September 7th people!!!  Is it going to be like this from now until Christmas?  Or is it because they think everyone has had such a bad year that we all want to get into the Christmas spirit now?  Literally or figuratively?!!!!!!!!!

I hope you are having a good Monday?

Hugs & Love, Susie xx
