Mainly what my Blog is about, well its supposed to be! My Quilts

National Quilting Day.

NQDcollab_circlonly_400wide-300x272

Today is National Quilting Day!  I have been so wrapped up in all the furore of the last week, I have completely zoned out of quilting!!!  However it is a great way to occupy your time as you are social distancing!!!

Anyway, Quilting!  I have started to sort out my quilting things to sew back at my desk which I use for work in the week.  As I have not done this for a while I have to remember where I put everything before and how I used to do it!!!!  I haven’t had much time up to now to do this so it will be a great job to do in the next few weeks.

I have a couple of projects still on the go, this being the main one made from the material above!!!  I just need to sew a final row onto the quilt and then I need to add the borders and the top will be done!!!  Hopefully over the next few weeks I can get this done.

It is a good job we Quilters have a good stash of material to keep us going at the moment.  Of course I am sure if you need anything lots of quilt shops will still mail things out to you.

Have a good day whatever you are up to, quilting or gardening or reading.

Stay Safe.

Tuesday & Birthday!

It’s Tuesday and that means lots of work!!!  I also have to re-arrange the week as we are busy Thursday and then at a business meeting on Friday so we are doing things a little backwards this week!!!  Hey ho keeps me on my toes I suppose!!!!

Anyway to nicer things; it is Molly’s 8th Birthday today, Happy, Happy Birthday Molly.  She and her Mom have had a wonderful day with doggie ice cream and presents and I am sure Molly has had the best day.  Treacle is taking notes ready for her Birthday in May!!!!!

I have set up my sewing back on my desk.  I just have to remember where everything went and how I operated!! I still have some things all over the place, the attic, under our bed etc but I am sure when I get set up it will all be sorted out and come back to me!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone.

Stitch It & Gift It Blog Hop Day 5.

Hello Hoppers and welcome to my Day on the Stitch It & Gift It Blog Hop.  There have been some amazing projects and gifts shown this week and many thanks goes to Carla at Creatin’ in the Sticks for this amazing Hop and all her hard work organising us all.  I actually found the Hop on my good friend, Farm Quilter’s Blog, so many thanks to her too.

These were actually started last year (!) but I did not get around to finishing them!!!  They are for DH and the Boys as mats.  They are all into cars and I just loved this fabric when I found it so had to use it for them.  Really quick “gift” block to make and I did a diamond quilting on it.

I need eight little gifts for some ladies nearer Christmas but could not decide on what to do but found this sweet little stocking pattern so decided that that would work.

I used the pattern to cut them out and used my pinking sheers to save sewing and turning them.

I sewed a ribbon to one corner and attached a little bell to the outside and inside there are some chocolate truffles.

The next projects, I am afraid, are not completed!  I just ran out of time sorry!  However I cannot show all of them to you either as the people they are for also read my blog!!!!  However here is a sneak peak!!!

The Backs.  I am hoping to get them finished over the weeked.

As you can see this one is still on the machine being quilted!!!  I just love the colours.

This is the back.  There are two of these!!!

I just love this time of year and getting things ready for Christmas.  I love spending time with the family and friends but usually end up running ragged trying to get everything done but I try each year to be organised and not get to that point!!! At the moment I am doing okay!!!!

However this is the state of Eldest’s bedroom at the moment, which I am camping in as my sewing room!!! I hate a mess so after finishing my quilting projects the next job will be to tidy this mess!!!!!  I do not work well in a mess!!!!

Tomorrow it is my day on the Hop and I feel quite intimidated by all the projects so far, I do hope mine live up to all the talent so far on the Hop!  It has been a great week and I have also found some new Blogs to read.

We have more rain today and tomorrow.  The water has receded quite a bit from the fields surrounding the village but of course with all this new rain it could flood again!!!  I am really now fed up with all the rain!!!

I hope you have a lovely day.

The problem is that my “To Do” list is getting longer and longer!!!!!  DH is at this conference today and tomorrow so I will have lots of work to do and also I am trying to fit in getting more Christmas jobs done.  Today I will be steaming the Christmas pudding.  Still need to make the mince pies and all the other goodies that DH and the Boys love.  I cannot believe how fast the weeks are flying by at the moment.

Today we have a bright, sunny but cool day but tomorrow it is forecast for heavy rain again with the possibilty of more flooding.  I think we could do with a few weeks of dry weather to try and get everything sorted.  Although we live on a Hill the garden has taken a battering and we could really do with some dry weather to try and tidy it up.  Treacle is also fed up with the wet weather as she absolutly hates being dried every time we come in!!!!

This was this afternoon,  As you can see she is taking advantage of the wet weather by snoozing in her basket next to my desk!!!

Have fun Hopping today.

We are still experiencing floods with more rain falling most of yesterday and over night and all day today.  At the moment it is not as high as it was on Friday but it is taking a long while to drain away!!!  They are now forecasting snow for us next week, just what we really don’t need at the moment.  DH and I have to go to Scotland next week for two days for work so that will be an interesting drive!!!

Still trying to get things sorted for Christmas, as well as finishing up other gift making, so will be using every evening and a few hours each day to try and catch up!!!  Someone said it is only six weeks before the big day now, which the way the weeks fly by it will be here very soon!!!!

***********

Busy weekend as always with DH busy and I was busy in my sewing room!!!  Sunday it was actually sunny but cold which was such a relief after all the rain, although we have more forecast for later in the week.  Youngest’s work place was completely flooded with some very expensive cars having to be written off!!!  He will be working from the other site until their new building is ready which hopefully should be in December.  Eldest finally got home after all the traffic had gone but had to go home via back roads to avoid the flooding.

This week DH is away on business (including on our Wedding Anniversary!!) so it will be a busy week and I also have some errands to run out into Derbyshire, flooding allowing me to of course!!!!!

Hope you all had a great weekend and a good week to come.

Hugs, Susie xx

Home, Caught Up and The Fesitval of Quilts!

We got home on Saturday evening after a long drive but the weather was kind to us.  Sunday we spent sorting things out and DH mowed the lawn that was not quite up to his knees! Monday I sat down to deal with 698 emails and accounts to sort!!!  Finally by today I am now up to date.  I just have a basket of ironing and then we are back to normal operating!!!!!  Tee hee!

We had a lovely holiday although DH did fit in four days of work with customers up there!!!  But the rest of the time it was very peaceful, although it did fly by!  I think we could have done with three weeks really!!!!

The Thursday before we left I went to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham.  It was the opening day and not too busy.  I took a lot of pictures so be warned this is a picture heavy post.  I also went to see Jenny Doan from the Missouri Star Quilt Company speak.  She was great and as engaging as her You Tube Tutorials are and also her Husband Ron was there too.

However I will say that although there were lots of quilt entires as always they did not appeal to me at all.  Whether it was the colours used or the blocks I found a lot to be quite uninspiring.  However below are the ones I loved.

This was my favourite quilt of the whole show.  I just love the colours and the subject matter.  I did have all the names but have mislaid the book!!!!  Sorry.

The above quilt had a 3D effect and looked like fruit boxes.

Below is a shirt quilt which looked great as a scrappy quilt.

I took the above picture as it is definitely a Boys Quilt.

I loved the above one with the colours and how intricate the pattern was.

The London Underground above!

Another favourite, the colours drew me to this.

As you know applique is my nemesis!  So I really appreciate these two quilts and all the hard work that went into them.

I love the deep red of this quilt and the different blocks.

I also admire anyone who can make fabric look like a painting!

This was done in postage stamp blocks!!!!!

Again I loved this picture quilt.

The above would make a wonderful baby quilt.

I just loved this happy cow!!!!!

I loved the above quilt as it is a smaller version of Treacle!

A very pale but intricate quilt.

These two quilts are just so intricate with the applique.

DH bought me a VIP ticket so we got to sit and relax in this lounge area and also had lunch there.

Jenny’s talk was a two hour Trunk Show and she had brought lots of quilts and then explained how she made them and also how to change the shape of a block by just turning one side of it.  Ron helped, as do all husbands, with the holding up of the quilts!

I also bought some fabric whilst I was there with my money box savings and had a good look around at different products.  We also, as we seem to do each year, saw DH’s cousin!!!  Of all the days it is on and all the people that go we always seem to be there on the same day!  It was lovely to see Jackie.

We got home around 6.00pm and then started sorting out things for going away on the Friday.  I will tell you all about our adventures on the Friday tomorrow!!!  It includes Treacle!!!!!

I hope you are having a lovely summer.

Hugs, Susie xx

A Little Bit of Quilting.

I got a bit of quilting done last night.  Really quick and easy bag for Youngest’s Girlfriend, whose Birthday is next week.  She is actually going away at the weekend on holiday with her family, so I thought the bag might be useful!

It is an MSQC bag from one of Jenny Doan’s tutorials on You Tube.  I have made a few of these, including for myself, and I found it the right size for most jobs!

The inside of the bag, below.

I had a few squares left over and made her a bag to go in the bag!!!

I have one of these in my bag with bits and pieces in and it manages to keep my bag tidy.

I used navy blue as that is her favourite colour.

I can show you these as she does not read my blog.

I love these quick little projects as you get to quilt but they are quick finishes.  I do hope she likes them.

House jobs day today as well as work and tomorrow DH and I have a few errands to run and we are also going to see two of DH’s cousins for lunch and then in the evening we are out for dinner at some friends of ours, so am looking forward to a fun day.

Saturday the weather is set for heavy rain so DH and I can get some jobs done in our home and then Sunday the weather is supposed to be sunny and warm so we can get the garden in tip top shape before we go away on vacation.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Hugs, Susie xx
