The lights in the streets were not on, not that there were many of them either and there was no tree or decorations in the main shopping centre either. So all in all we came away with a very deflated view! However I had put the Christmas CDs’ in my car so we did have Christmas music to listen to!!! We are going out next month for a meal as we usually do once a month and I am hoping that that will be more Christmassy!
I think everyone is so fed up with all the dreadful news about the war in Ukraine, the bad economy and the doomsayers who seem to report that they even have a broken nail (!) that they have given up on Christmas already, especially the retailers who seem to be not bothered about doing Christmas this year. It is a shame as we have had two previous years where we have had restrictions due to Covid, you would have thought they would try and do better this year but it appears not.
So although I don’t usually change my blog over until December 1st, I have now! Someone needs to be getting in the Christmas spirit! My good friend Sue & Molly already have one of their trees up with ornaments and lights on and ours will be going up the first weekend of December!
I feel Christmassy even if no one else does!!!!
Happy Wednesday you lovely lot.
Hugs & Love, Susie & Coco xx
With the prices merchants have to pay for everything going up, their prices also have gone up, leaving the poor, squeezed consumer between a rock and a hard place. I think consumers are spending less on what they can control so they can continue to pay for what they must to keep body and soul united, so the shops are seeing less traffic…but maybe if they were more festive, they would get more traffic!! This is a time like no other for 99% of the people alive…most of those who lived through the Great Depression are gone and those who are still alive were children during that time. I supposed it is also a bit like WWII with rationing, but those who were old enough to really remember are now mostly gone. Not something my generation has had to deal with in our lifetimes!! I hope the Christmas spirit ramps up for you…we still have Thanksgiving next week to get through!!
What a shame that you and Jayne weren’t able to get into the true Christmas spirit with holiday decorations. I finally put my small Christmas tree in my kitchen window. I was afraid to do it too early thinking the neighbors would think I was nuts and then I decided – what the heck! Christmas is such a cheerful time of year!
