Monthly Archives: May 2019

Monday, Monday, so good to me!

I am loving the fact that I am able to watch the Game of Thrones episode with my breakfast on Monday mornings, albeit at 5.30am this morning!!!!  I had to take Eldest to work as his car is in for a service, as is DH’s truck!!!  All these things come at once.  So I was back home by 7.00am and it is amazing how much you can get done before the phones start ringing!

DH was busy over the weekend and I stayed home and got a mixture of Spring Cleaning and quilting done as well as the ironing basket emptied!!!  We did get to go to the garden centre yesterday morning and got some new plants and some plants for the summer bedding, pictures of which are below.

My planter from our friends.  The daffodils have finished now but the other plants are still going strong.

Plants we bought waiting to be put in.  I have to empty the pots of the winter pansies and then wash and refill them and then plant them up.  The next few days are going to be warm so I will get these done one evening.

I put this in last year and it is doing so well this year.  I am going to take some cuttings to grow some more.

This has appeared and I don’t remember planting it but it really is very pretty so again I am going to take some cuttings.

The pink Rhododendron is just coming out (sorry its blurred).

The Vinca Major is busy flowering.

The garden furniture is back out and we need to re-stain this, this year.

As today is the first really hot day for a while I have washed three pairs of curtains and got them dried outside.

Treacle loving the weather and being outside all day.

This is my new Rhododendron we planted last year and it really is a beautiful lemon colour.  I love it.

Below is one of my tree peonies, the flower is massive.

Our pond in a barrel which we are going to clean out this year and re-plant with some new water plants.  The Reindeer is now keeping it company and our Wisteria is just coming out.  It is sulking as we chopped a lot of it down last year!!!!!

I wanted to show you my Christmas Cacti, it flowered at Christmas and has now come out again as you can see.  When it has finished flowering I am going to re-pot it into a bigger pot.

We also did another good job yesterday when we tidied up and made a list of all my food stores in our room off the garage.  This is tins of food etc which I buy when it is on offer and then use it from there.  A very good friend of mine in the US only goes grocery shopping twice a year and then buys fresh things weekly.  Of course she lives in the middle of nowhere and is not able to pop to the shops like I can.  However when I was first on my own I used to shop once a month and then just buy the fresh things weekly, perhaps I should go back to doing that? I will show you some pictures later in the week.

I have also been buying a little extra each week because of Brexit!  I know we are told not to stock pile food but I do think that whenever the stupid thing is sorted there will be those who try to take advantage of the situation and put prices up whether it is needed or not, so I am just getting a little ahead of the game!!!

(Picture from Bravo TV)

Speaking of shopping I don’t know if you watch “The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills” (it is the only one I watch) but did you see them going “camping” in last week’s episode!!!!  Firstly they went in a huge RV, secondly when they got there, their tents were set up like a hotel room and thirdly they were there for one night!

They went shopping for this one night and managed to spend over $700!  I spend that sort of amount for a month for four of us and Treacle including all the cleaning/washing/toiletries etc!!!!!  How can you spend that much money for one night?  Also the amount of clothes they had taken for one night and two days!!!!!  Good grief.  I have always thought that when they travel abroad for say four days and they each turn up with about four suitcases!!  I mean what planet do they live on?  They must always have to pay excess baggage charges!  I took one, admittedly big, case for a fortnight which in fact turned into three weeks.  Their lives are just not in the real world at all, but that is why I like to watch!!!!!  tee hee!!!

Anyway having got all my work done this morning, I have done a few little Spring Cleaning jobs this afternoon before I need to fetch Eldest and then start dinner.  DH is out, again, tonight at a swimming meeting but I think I will be going to bed early, having got up early this morning.  Tomorrow I have an appointment to get my hair cut and run some errands.  Next week DH and I are going to Chelsea Flower Show.  More on that later in the week.

Have a Wonderful Week.

Susie’s Friday Book Club.

Hi folks and welcome to Book Club for May.  This month is a mystery/crime book and I just have to say there are some gory descriptions it.  DH would never read it as he does not like the descriptive bits and he would never watch “Bones” on TV for that reason!!!  If you can get past that then the book is really great.

Robert Hunter is an LA Detective with a bad case of Insomnia (I know how he feels).  Their latest case is a serial killer whose victims come from various legal and police backgrounds but with no link they can find and he is creating sculptures left at the scene of the crime.  Robert and his partner and a detective from the DA’s office need to find the killer fast before they drown in sculptures and body parts.

I haven’t finished it yet but I am hooked and cannot put it down.  I have been reading this when I have been waking up at 2.30am and it is amazing how many chapters you can read at that time in the morning!!!!!  However I am very tired by 4.00pm that day!!!!

You can get it on all platforms from Amazon.  I have read quite a few of Chris Carter’s books now and he is a great story teller.

DH is in and out all weekend so I have a few errands to run in the morning and then I think I will do some Spring Cleaning and also some quilting, so a little bit of everything!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

#TBT today is for my Dad who today would have been 95 had he lived.  Here he is with my Mom on their wedding day when he was 25 and she was 19.

He was the eldest of six, his siblings being Malcolm, Dennis, George, Barbara and Peter and sadly his Mom died not long after having Peter.  Dad took over the running of the home and looking after the others until his father re-married to a woman who hated him.  He left quite quickly after that and joined the RAF and was sent out to India during WWII.  He came home and began work at the RAF base and four years later met by Mom and they were married in 1949.

He and Mom set up home in Nottingham and lived their all their lives. I arrived in 1964 much to their shock as they had been married for fifteen years by then.  We had a lovely home and Dad had moved from working on aircraft to being a buyer for a local firm.  Mom worked as well, which was unusal for those days, at the local health department in the immunisation department for children.

Sadly he died two months after his 55th birthday in July, I was fifteen and really did not know him well and certainly did not get to know him or my Mom as an adult.  I am sure however they would have loved DH and their Grandsons to bits.

Happy Birthday Dad.

Spring Cleaning Day!

I have been continuing with the Spring Cleaning jobs today doing one at a time.  All the pots in our Dining Room Dresser are now washed, I am so glad we have a dishwasher though!!!  We do have some pots, which we have inherited from our families, which can only be washed by hand and that does take a while.

I have also managed to get all the silver, brass and copper cleaned; I did watch a film in our kitchen whilst I was doing that job.

All our glassware has been run through the dishwasher on the gentle setting and are all now sparkly!!!!!

I don’t think I ever showed you this piece of glassware (below) that we were given by DH’s Cousins when his Aunt passed.  It is a lovely cheese plate which we use when we have friends for dinner.

It has all the names of different cheeses on!

Treacle has been busy following me about our home as I have been collecting things for washing and then putting them back again!!!!

Still have lots to do towards the Spring Cleaning but I am ticking them off my list slowly one by one!!!!  I will need DH to help with the big jobs, such as moving the furniture, but we have another long weekend at the end of this month when he will be able to help me then.

I hope your Tuesday is going well, because we had yesterday off as a holiday I will be at sixes and sevens all week with the days!!!!!

It’s A Boy!

The Duke & Duchess of Sussex have had their Baby, a little Boy.

I could have said she was having a boy as she was late.  Our two Boys were both ten days late, lazy boys!!!!!!!  We didn’t know what we were having but when I said I was late, especially ten days, everyone said I must be having a Boy and they were!

Many Congratulations to them from Our Family,

Susie, DH, Eldest, Youngest, Fiancé & Treacle

xxxxx, woof!

Bank Holiday Monday!

Today is a holiday here in the UK and so far it is not raining!!!  DH left at 6.00am to go to the swimming competition where he is commentating all day (!) and this was what I was doing at 6.00am:

Yep Game of Thrones.  As they are showing it at the same time in the US and UK it is on here at 2.30am!!!  SO I have been recording it and watching it later on.  For those of you who have seen it my only thought with the dragons was for Daenerys to fly around the back of the ships and burn them from the back for I could not see that the huge crossbows could be turned around!!!!  Also apparently on the table near Daenerys when they are talking to Jon about the battle there is a Starbucks cup on the table!!!!!!  I did not see this it was in the newspaper – oops!!!!!

I really hope as we only have two episodes to go now before the end, that Cersei does not win and stays on the Iron Throne as I think that would be a betrayal of all the fans.  I don’t care who ends up on the Iron Throne so long as it is not her!!!!!!

So as everyone is out of the house today except Treacle and I, I thought I would get on with some Spring Cleaning!!! Treacle is outside at the moment as it is sunny for a while but we are due rain later.

Spring Cleaning is one of those jobs that I hate doing but love the result when it is done!!!!! Oh well on we go.  I hope you all have a great week.

Hugs, Susie xx

Happy Birthday Treacle.

Our Wonderful Treacle is 11 Today!  Happy Birthday Treacle

Here are her presents.  She loves opening presents, whoever’s they are but it is especially great when they are for you!!!

Action shot of Treacle and Youngest opening one of her gifts!

Always need a bit of help!

A new interactive game for her to move things to get a treat!  She worked it out with a bit of help from Youngest.

Anymore Treats Mom?

Treacle with her toys that she got for her Birthday.

She got two extra for Easter two weeks ago and a couple donated from the clearout by the Boys so we have said we will go through her Toy Basket and tidy it up and get rid of any which are wrecked!!!!!!

It has been a busy day!!!

I am going to make her some biscuits from a recipe I have found on the web, but didn’t have time to do them yesteday but will have a go over the weekend!!!

I had some errands to run this morning and I called at the Garden Centre to pick up some plants and some seeds for the summer and I called at the garage to get some fuel and get my car washed as it had not been done in ages and was getting really dirty!!!!

DH is out until tonight and then out again early tomorrow morning at another swimming event and then will have to move all the sound equipment to another venue for the Monday event!!!  I am going to be busy at home getting some Spring Cleaning done and some quilting too!!!

Have a great weekend.

Hugs, Susie xx

Technology is a wonderful thing sometimes and it can also be maddening!!  However one of my Apps shows me photographs from different years which is great as it shows you ones that you might have forgotten!!  Anyway yesterday it showed me some pictures of when we went to Orlando in 2008, which I cannot believe is eleven years ago now!!!  Eldest was twelve and Youngest was eight and we have the most fantastic holiday and The Boys still talk about it now.

All Three are car nuts, still are!!!!!IMG_0927

Epcot at USA World.

My Boys and I outside Cinderella’s Castle.  I had my arms around both of them but Eldest was proving that he was taller than me by standing up really tall!!!  It wasn’t much longer before they were both taller than I!!!!

We had dinner with the Characters and Pluto was a hit with us all!!!!

Main Street as it started to get dark and the lights came on.

One of my most favourite pictures of them with Baloo and King Louie. In fact “The Jungle Book” Disney film I went to see at the cinema with three friends for my Birthday in 1971.

We spent the day at Discovery Cove and although it is in the middle of the city you would not know, a little bit of paradise.  The Boys loved the sand and the swimming of course.

We went to NASA and had lunch with a real Astronaut.

We did all of the Disney World parks several times but The Boys always loved the cars!  DH has this picture on his dresser.

I have all the 2008 and 2010 pictures of our trips to Orlando in several places; printed, backed up on my computer, DH’s computer, my iPod and off site too.  I am also going to print them all out and put them in an album each like we used to do before digital!!!!

Been working this morning and now I am going to get on with our house jobs.  Treacle is busy helping by sleeping in her basket, very tidy!!!!  DH checked behind the Boys’ Den last night and it appears she has not been digging but we are not too sure what she has been doing up there.  DH had put a rather large stone to stop her which she had managed to move!!!!!  Anyway she wasn’t in trouble fortunately!!!!!!

It is also Voting day today here in the UK for our local Councils including the Village Parish Council, so DH and I will be going later on this evening when he gets back from work.

Whatever you are up to today I hope you have a Thrilling Thursday.

Hugs, Susie xx

May Day & The Wednesday Wag & Afternoon Tea!

May Day!

Well it is a three-in-one post today!  Happy May Day to everyone and hopefully the weather will now be glorious for the rest of the year!!!!  Our garden is certainly starting to bloom and I will get some pictures over the next few days to show you.

Afternoon Tea!

For Gail’s 70th we were at Morley Hayes where the Boys’ had their 18ths’!  The entrance above.  Next to the door there was a Magnolia tree in a very pretty pink just flowering.

We had a lovely afternoon with Gail and Pat and everyone else, a very civilised way to spend a Tuesday afternoon!!!

One of the plate of cakes, they kept refilling the sandwiches and scones and cake plates!!

The table flowers.

Scones, I didn’t have one, DH had mine instead!!!!

Gail had a wonderful afternoon and the previous weekend had been away with her children, their wives and grandchildren and her brothers so she had a great time celebrating her milestone.

The Wednesday Wag!

The weather has been quite good today so I have spent a lot of time outside but I disappeared at one point and Mom could not see me at all, I was behind the Boys’ Den again and Mom thinks I am digging up there, although she has not been up to look, she has threatened that she will send Dad when he gets back from work!!! Oops!!!!

Think I had better keep my head down until this little storm blows over!!!!  I think Dad said that if I did this again he was going to put something up there to stop me getting around the back of the Den! That’s okay though I will just find another area to have a dig at!!!!!

The weekend is going to be busy with people in and out at different times of the day and early morning so it will probably only be Mom and I at home for most of it and it is a three day weekend too.  Although I think Mom is going out for some of it too.  Never mind I will catch up on my sleep, now the lighter nights are here and I am spending so much time outside in the fresh air!!!!  It really is very tiring.

I hope you are having a very woofy Wednesday.

Treacle x

Oh Treacle I think you will be in trouble with Daddy when he gets in!!!!  It’s fine to go up there just don’t dig so much!!!!!

Tomorrow is house jobs day and I am going to do some baking as I have a friend popping round on Friday morning and then after she has left I need to run some errands and also do the grocery shopping.  The weekend is manic and I think I am just going to make dinners and put them in the fridge for whenever they get back and want to eat!!!!!

Happy Wednesday everyone and Happy May Day too!

Hugs, Susie xx
