Our Weekend Away.

DH and I had a wonderful three days in London and as there are lots of pictures I am going to split it over the next three days.  We left on the 10.05am train from the station and here is DH doing a little bit of work on the journey down.  However it is still a picture heaving post hope you are ready!!!

The lamps outside our hotel, The Goring.

We had lunch at a little cafe along from Harrods, above.  Their desserts looked lovely but I was too full.

Harrods was decorated for Christmas.

We had dinner at Gilray’s Steak House overlooking the River, which was very busy for a Friday night!!!

DH still messing around with Emails.

The Bar at Gilray’s.

Dinner served in a frying pan!!!  There has been a big debate about why you get these strange “plates” instead of actual plates.  However it was a lovely meal.

This used to be the old Westminster Council building and it has now been taken over by several businesses including a hotel, the restaurant and other businesses. This was outside in the centre of the building.

I also think that some of the tennis players who were playing at the ATP Tour Final at the O2 Arena were staying there as there was one of the official cars parked here.

We then went to see the play “Witness for the Prosecution” by Agatha Christie at the old court building at the other side of the old Council Offices.  It was great and we really enjoyed it.  The above and below pictures are the foyer.

Where the play was to take place, we had a great view!

Where the Judge will sit.

The pictures above are as the play was proceeding.

When we came out it was a typical November evening; cold, drizzling and a little bit foggy.  The red lights above the building is the London Eye.

You find, especially in London, that people never look up especially at the buildings and this building is opposite the old Council Offices.  This building would have been an old maternity unit but in those days it was called a Lying in Hospital!!!!

When we got back to our room, it was ready for our arrival and the sheep was busy giving us advice!!!!  The sheep are a big thing at The Goring.  Below is from their website :

Bar-baa-ra The Goring Sheep

Impeccably English and perfectly individual

The Goring sheep have become as iconic as the hotel itself. Here is a little history on how they came to be…

Guests used to remark to George Goring that they did not feel as if they were in London when they stayed at The Goring, but rather it had the peace and calm of a country hotel – due to the beautiful garden and the quiet location in Belgravia.

So one day, when he was driving through Somerset, Mr Goring came across the workshop of a lady who made the most engaging wooden sheep with real sheepskin fur. He bought one and took it back to The Goring, as he thought it really brought the country feel of the hotel to life. The guests loved it – and he subsequently commissioned her to make more and more.

So when guests visit The Goring today, they will be able to see some of these famous sheep dotted about the hotel and on each bed, ready to welcome guests to The Goring.

Here is the the “Big” sheep below in our room.

However we get to keep the little sheep on the bed which is now residing on our bed at home, although I am having to keep him away from Treacle who thinks it is for her!!!!

She had a fantastic time with Youngest and Girlfriend over the weekend and we are very grateful to him for looking after her and our Home whilst we were away.

Tomorrow I will show you what we got up to on the Saturday!

Have a fantastic week everyone.

Hugs, Susie xx

The Wednesday Wag.

It is Wednesday again, the middle of the week, and lots and lots of jobs are being done at home.  As you can see even my quilt was moved for cleaning purposes but that does not stop me sleeping on it where ever it is!!!

Youngest was making sure my Santa hat was still okay from last year and Mom says it probably just needs a quick wash to make it smell a little sweeter, I really don’t know what she means!!!!

If you have finished all your jobs now Mom, can I have my biscuit?

It must be coming up to Christmas soon as I see lots of things being wrapped and I think some of the presents may have been for me, as I was investigating the bags and Mom quickly removed one to the top of the wardrobe.  That’s just not fair!!!!  I need to inspect all of them to make sure they are all correctly wrapped!!  Ever since I ate that whole Christmas chocolate log that year, nothing is left at my level ever now!!!!

I hope you are having a wonderful Woofy Week and have a great weekend, apparently I am on my own with Youngest this weekend as Mom and Dad are away so that is going to be interesting!!!!  I hope he knows my schedule and will do everything on time, or else I will be putting in a complaint to the Management!!!!

Being Organised!

Some of you may hate me for this, but you know that part of my plan this year was to be more organised and so far I have been keeping up with this.  So, one of my other things of being organised has been :

Yes get the Christmas presents I have bought so far wrapped and tagged and put away!!!!!  I still have to get some more and the family presents are not bought yet but my good friend, Jayne, and I are going Christmas shopping a week today so hopefully I will get it done by then.

I have gone through our Christmas card lists too and bought the cards, just now need to pin DH down to an evening and get them all written!!  They have not brought out the Christmas stamps yet so I will wait to get those, but I do have the last posting dates for the UK in case you need to know!! They are :

2nd Class Post – Tuesday December 18th

1st Class Post – Thursday December 20th

I am a little behind on some of the baking I get done before Christmas and in the freezer for the Holidays but am planning on spending a day next week getting that done.  Of course it is trying to keep DH and The Boys off of them so they actually make it into the freezer!!!!!!

DH and I also have plans to go over to Nottingham to see the family a little nearer Christmas and also do some shopping and we are also over there one evening to see all the lights and have dinner, I will get some pictures for you.

Tomorrow I have some errands to run and a few other jobs to get done, I have managed to get caught up on all my work.  Thursday evening we are starting with all the Little Swimmers giving out their Gift for Christmas and that will be at every swimming session for the next two weeks!!!  Oh boy!

I hope you are all having a great week and your plans for Christmas are coming along.

Stan Lee.

ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" - Season Three

1922 – 2018

To Stan Lee who showed us through his talented drawings and stories that Good always triumphs over Evil and even if there are difficult times you can overcome them.

The Boys loved the Marvel movies and especially looking out for Stan Lee’s cameos.  We are waiting for the second installment of “Avengers: Infinity War” next year and can’t wait to see how it all works out.

Our 30th!

30 years ago we said “I Do” and became one!!!  Sorry the above picture is not good but it is a photograph of a photograph, no digital in those days!!!!!  Makes me sound ancient!!!!

We were very fortunate that the day dawned very frosty and bright sunshine which was a relief as November can be quite dreadful weather wise.  The above picture was taken in the grounds of the Hotel where we had our Wedding Breakfast.

This was taken in the hotel.

As you know we are off to London next weekend to celebrate as we were really busy this past weekend so could not go and Monday really is not a good day to have a celebration!!!!  However DH and I went out for a very nice lunch at The Cock Inn at Mugginton in Derbyshire.

DSC_0756As you can see the weather was good today too.

A great painting on the wall of the Restaurant which is part of their paperwork, menus etc.

We have had lots of good wishes today from family and friends, which was lovely of everyone and a big Thank You to all.  Will get lots of pictures at the weekend to show you next week.

The next few days I have quite a lot to do and catch up on before we go away on Friday and Youngest is at home over the weekend with Girlfriend to look after Treacle whilst we are away.  Which of course means she will be thoroughly spoilt but hey we are away!!  He started a new job today and had a first great day so all is well there and Eldest is away from Wednesday to the end of the week with his final exams and assessments and he will know by Friday how things have gone and Girlfriend has just got her results from her Masters year and she got a First!!!  So when we get back hopefully we will be going out and celebrating lots!!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a great week to come.

Hugs & Love Susie xx

We Shall Remember Them.

Today we Remember all those who gave their lives for us, particularly during WWI, which ended 100 years ago today.  Our family were lucky and my Grandfather who was in the Tank Corp during The Great War came home when so many did not.

We also Remember all those who gave their lives for us in WWII.  Again my family were lucky and my Dad, who was in the RAF during that War, came home.  DH’s father was in The Royal Engineers and he came home too.

We also Remember all those who have given their lives in conflicts around the World since the end of WWII and to all those serving now who keep us safe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Susie’s Friday Book Club.

As it is the second Friday of the month it is Book Club Day.

Now all of us who read a lot know that the book is always better than the film.  However have you ever gone on to read the books of old films?  Well if not let me suggest one to you, as it is definitely a favourite of mine.

“Dracula” by Bram Stoker.  I originally read this when I was about eighteen and of course had seen lots and lots of films about him and just think of how many modern interpretations of Vampires there are now, all of which stem from this book.  When it was first published in 1897 it was mistaken for a factual account as it is written in the form of diary entries.  Added to the fact that when wealthy young Victorian Man went off on their Grand Tours of Europe they went with a travelling Vampire kit to ward off any that they may meet, you can see why we all became fascinated.

The story starts where young Jonathon Harker, newly qualified in the field of Law, is sent to visit an old client of the firm, Count Dracula in his Castle in Transylvania to help with the sale of some land.  However he soon realises that he is in fact Dracula’s prisoner, worst still that he is a Vampire, but eventually escapes home to England.  Closely followed by Dracula himself with boxes filled with Transylvanian earth which will help him to re-gain his strength.  That and a very nice young lady named Lucy Westenra, who is holidaying with her good friend Mina Murray in Whitby, will help Dracula become strong again.  Fortunately Mina is engaged to Jonathon who, with the help of the great Van Helsing, devises a plan to rid the World of Dracula.

The book is very good and does not go in for the shock horror of lots of blood. guts and gore but in a very restrained and refined way does have you turning the pages to find out what happens next.  It is a classic of course but certainly one of my favourites.  You can get it from Amazon on all platforms.

I thought you would also like this book as it is not long after Halloween, always a good time for lots of Vampires to be around!!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and don’t get too scared if you read this book, but whatever you are all up, I hope you have a great time.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

I don’t think we can ignore it any longer as the weeks are flying by and all the stores are now stocking Christmas things.  Last night DH and I were invited to a late night shopping event at a very well-known Department Store in the UK where we do almost all of our shopping.  They had put on different demonstrations  and the whole store was open for shopping, so I took advantage of DH being there so he could carry the bags and got quite a few presents.

Of course it is not just Christmas present buying I have to do at this time of year as I have five Birthdays between now and Christmas who all need presents.  It gets very confusing as I am in Christmas mode and then think oh I need a Birthday present as well for that person!!!!!

This was one of the decorations at the Store.

A few of our parcels!

When we are in London I am going to look for some unusual things for the Boys, the Girlfriends and DH and our close friends.    I have a few more things to get and then it will be about done!!!  Just need to get them wrapped, tagged and then they can happily sit and wait until we do the delivery runs, which I love doing.  You get to see everyone for a little while and catch up.

Today was house job day and also finishing some work off.  Tomorrow I have a few errands to run and unfortunately a funeral to go to of a friend from Tanget.  Tomorrow evening it is the young swimmers and their Championships, DH is out compering and then Saturday evening we are with the older swimmers at the Arena League.  Sunday is Remembrance Sunday and before we know it, it will be Monday again.

Just wanted to say Hi and thank you as I have gained a few new Followers over the last few weeks.  Welcome to my crazy World.

I hope you lovely lot are having a great week.  I will try not to overload you too much with Christmas things but I can’t promise!!!!!  Tee Hee!!!!

The Wednesday Wag.

After all the nice weather we have had, today it has been raining, in fact more than raining, I think the term is stair rods!!!  I have not enjoyed being out in it!!!!

I had my lunchtime biscuit and am now quite happily in my basket in the warmth whilst Mom is working at her desk.

I am definitely a Fair Weather Airedale!!!!

I hope you are having a Happy Wednesday.

Woof, Treacle.

A November Tuesday.

It is getting very dark in the evenings now, quite early as we head for December but in some ways it is quite nice as the curtains are closed and lights on which always makes it better.  Yesterday was a typical, for Britain, dank November day where it was misty and very dark all day, so the lights were on all day whilst I was working at my desk.  Treacle was not bothered as she was fast asleep in her basket.

Notice the ear is up for her “early warning system” ie although she is asleep she can hear what is going off at all times!!!! Tee hee!!!

This is the new terracota pot and stick over the hole where my washing pole goes into the ground. We have done this because last year we “lost” the hole come Spring as the grass had covered it over.  Treacle keeps trying to bite it, which I tell her off for because of her teeth, but as you can see she has been chewing the stick!!!!  Anyway the reason I am showing you this is because it looks like a Fairy house!!!  I thought of making a little sign saying “For Rent”.

We had the swimming AGM last night which went on longer than anticipated so DH and I didn’t get back until late and we still had not had dinner!!!!  Today it has been work all day and then I have some errands to run tomorrow and then DH and I are out in the evening at a Christmas event.  I am hoping to get lots of pictures to show you.

Bonfire Night seemed to go off with a bang (!) but not too many fireworks so I think that will be it now until New Year!  Treacle doesn’t bother with them much, or barks at them and Youngest was in last night so she was happy about that.

I hope your week is progressing well.

Hugs, Susie xx

Yes I know it’s a Christmas picture!!!!  But all the stores are doing it?!!!!! The Boys are nine and thirteen here!!!!!
