RIP Robin Williams!

The wonderfully funny and talented Robin Williams passed away yesterday and the World is a little darker for it.

I was fourteen when Mork & Mindy hit our TV screens and my friends and I loved it!  He will always be Mork to me.

Na-No Na-No to you all and RIP Robin Williams

Festival of Quilts 2014 Purchases!!!!!!

Who doesn’t love shopping?  I used my Missouri Quilt Company bag that I made to carry all my purchases in.  Here is what I bought :

This was free, just had to let them have my email address! Probably will regret this when I get thousands of emails!!!!!!

Some lovely Tilda fabrics

This is a lovely little wooden cotton reel with Homemade ribbon on.

A little bundle of material. I love the colours.

This is a chalk pen I am going to use to transfer the pattern onto Eldest’s Quilt

This pattern is for a lovely little lap quilt but I am going to use those rose coloured Tilda fabrics. The spotted fabric is for the binding.

You can never have enough wadding!

I also bought a paper pattern which you sew over on top of the quilt.  Again this will be for Eldest’s quilt.  I want to do the quilting like waves so I will have to experiment a little bit first.

Still trying to get some of the projects finished and am determined that this weekend I am going to make a start.  Once I get going there will be no stopping me!!!!!!

Sorry about the alignment of the pictures, WordPress seems to be playing up today and inserting the pictures where it wants, and not where I want!!!!!!!!

Must get on now as Youngest is going swimming tonight and I am on duty as the taxi!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Festival of Quilts

This is what I did yesterday!  Saturday turned out lovely and sunny and warm so it was a great day to get jobs done, especially in the garden.  I think everyone had the same idea as yesterday the Quilt show was realllllllly busy, but last year the Sunday was quiet!!!!!

I must warn you this post is picture heavy!!! I only took pictures of the quilts I really loved, which is probably not what my readers want but there were 100s’ of quilts!  So here goes….  they are in no particular order just as I came upon them.

I Love these style of quilts and there always seems to be one in every show.

I love this quilt and the colours

I love the colours in this one, muted but still colourful

lovely and bright

As you can see I love the traditional quilts

Two mini quilts but the pictures didn’t turn out well.

The Boys would love this one!

I don’t normally like art quilts but this one was stunning!

I loved this one for its whimsey

You guessed it the colours, amazing.

There were a couple regarding the Centenary of the Great War this was stunning.

I loved this as it felt ethereal.

Now you know I LOVE Elephants and this quilt was 3D.  If I could, I would have sneaked it right out of there!

The second Memorial Quilt for The Great War.

Love this cotton reel quilt

This was a postage stamp quilt and was just amazing that this quilter had the patience to sew these tiny squares together.

I took this because I loved the red but I also thought that I worry so much when my blocks are wonky and this was in the competition!

This was another quilt I could have sneaked out.  I just love that snowy scene.

This was amazing

Now this was the winner of Best in Show and I am sure there are lots of people who loved it.  I personally don’t!

This was the winner of Quilt Creations but as far as I am concerned should have won the Best In Show. It was a fully working grandfather clock made of quilted things and I loved it.

In the left hand picture there are books and the pendulum which was ticking away and the face with the hands moving.

A close up of the side of the face

Here is the details of the Clock.

I had a great time wandering around the show and then looking at all the stalls, although they all seemed to have notices on about no pictures.  I managed to pick up some material and a pattern I fancied, but I will show you those tomorrow.  I didn’t do any of the Workshops as there was nothing which caught my fancy but they were all busy.  I was also glad we were inside as it was pouring with rain in the morning as Britain caught the tail end of Hurricane Bertha, fortunately it was her last gasp, so not too much damage, just a lot of water!!!!!

Pop back tomorrow to see what I bought.

Hope you are having a merry Monday.

He’s Home!

Youngest is home!  They arrived back by 11.00am which threw a kink into the day as they were supposed to be back at 4.00pm but we sorted it.  DH and I went to fetch him and they had all had a fantastic ten days.  Youngest loved Prague, they went white water rafting on the old Olympic course, they went to the Thermal Pools in East Germany, they also went to a local water park, hiking in the hills and lots more adventures.  They are hoping to get the photographs collated and out to everyone soon.

Treacle was beside herself when he came in!  I couldn’t get any pictures as she wouldn’t stay still!!!!!!!!

He got changed when he got in and then put his PJ’s on and went to bed.  He was trying to stay up until bed time but he was just too tired.  They got an earlier ferry which is why they were back early and they did not get any sleep on the coach.  I don’t think we will see him for the rest of the day now.

Here is what I am doing now, along with business work!!!!!!  Yes it all smells like ditch water!!!!! and it is all damp!!!!!!  Fortunately it is a warm day so I can get some of it outside!!!!

Despite the washing I am so glad he is home.  Just need the other one back now.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Lights Out In Remembrance

Last night between 10.00pm and 11.00pm we were encouraged to put out all the lights and light a candle in Remembrance of all those who fell in The Great War.  This was following a candle lit service from Westminster Abbey where there were readings and prayers.  It was inspired by the quote by the then Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey, on the eve of Britain’s entry into the first ever global conflict: “The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime.”

Here is our candle we lit in Remembrance.  Sad to say we were the only ones on our Hill who did!

It has been a busy few days with work and DH and I are seriously missing the Boys, even if the evenings are like BC (Before Children!).  On Sunday we had a visit from Felicity, Lee and Evalyn but didn’t get any pictures, which was a bit silly of us.  DH is busy at work and has been leaving the house at 6.00am every day so Treacle and I have had the place to ourselves.  She is still wandering into the Boys rooms and looking for them but soon comes down to her basket by my desk as if to say “you will have to do”!

One thing I have noticed since the Boys have been away is how tidy and clean the house has stayed!!!!!!!!!!!!  And a lot less washing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  But I still miss them!!!!!

I am going to have a sneaky sewing day tomorrow (shush don’t tell anyone!!!!!) and try and get a few projects finished.  This Sunday I will be going to the biggest quilt show in Europe, The Festival of Quilts, at the NEC in Birmingham and can’t wait.  Hopefully I will get lots of pictures.  There are also lots and lots of stalls with fabric and notions and all sorts on, Yeah!!!!!!!!

We have also had one of those days with events happening at the Swimming Club.  You take these voluntary jobs on, because you want to help the club and the swimmers, and then something happens and it almost overtakes the day job to sort out.  Well it is that sort of situation at the moment and I am feeling utterly defeated tonight!  So much so that I feel slightly sick and extremely tired!  There doesn’t at present appear to be a solution to the situation either, so this will rumble on for many weeks I suspect!

Tomorrow I am also going to visit all the entries on the Pets on Quilts.  Treacle and I have had some lovely comments which I will also be responding to tomorrow and want to do the same for everyone who has entered.

I do hope your Tuesday is better than mine has been.  Treacle and I are going to bed soon to snuggle, that always makes me feel better.

Pets On Quilts Show 2014!

Treacle’s Entry for 1. Dog or Puppy on a Quilt

Here is Treacle on the Picnic Quilt I have just finished.  The Weather has been warm but cloudy today but I managed to get some pictures of her on the quilt.  I have yet to actually quilt and bind it but time has got away from me.  I am hoping to do it this week!!!

Treacle always loves it when quilts are on the floor and always comes and inspects them and comfort tests them by lying on them!

Of course it doesn’t stop her having a chew at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is our entry for the 1.  Dog or puppy on Quilt Entry on the wonderful Pets on Quilts Show which is going off at Lily Pad Quilting (http://lilypadquilting.blogspot.co.uk/).  Hop over and have a look at all the wonderful entries and the lovely Sponsors who have given prizes for the winners of the most votes.

If you would like to, please vote for Treacle as she loves winning things.  Good luck to all the entrants and Many Thanks to Snoodles & Padsworth for organising such fun.

We Shall Remember Them!

Today marks 100 years when Britain entered the Great War and commemorations are taking place around the Country to remember those who lost their lives over the four years.

This is my Grandfather, Frank Knight, who was born on July 18th 1897 and was 17 when War broke out and in this picture he is in his Tank Corp uniform where he fought during the whole of the War.  Our family were lucky and he came home.

During the Second World War he was an ARP Warden, as he was then working in a Reserved Occupation as an engineer in the local munitions factory.

I often think that Eldest looks a lot like his Great Grandfather.

Tonight the country is being asked to switch off all the lights between 10.00pm and 11.00pm and light a candle in Remembrance and we will be doing this.
