What a Week!

More Snow

It has been a really hectic week.  Last Friday it snowed all day and then all night, so when we got up Saturday morning it was really deep again.  Youngest’s drive at the racetrack was cancelled but they didn’t let us know until we were half an hour away from arriving!  We then drove up to Nottingham and got a few things for the holidays.  We got home about lunchtime, having been up since 5.00am and decided, as it was still snowing, to go to the cinema and pizza.  So out of chaos we all had a great day.

We needed to give out some paperwork at Swimming Club and really chose the wrong week to do it with the bad weather!  Most of it got done just a few to do when we are all back.

It has been a hectic week with work too as we are trying to get as much done as possible before we go away on vacation for the Easter break with The Boys and Girlfriend.  Today we are packing and I am taking my sewing things with me so I can try and get Eldest’s quilt done and some other projects.  I can’t wait, it will be so nice to switch off for a while and just be creative!

Treacle has gone on her holidays too and couldn’t wait to get there, she loves the kennels where she goes, probably because they get treats every time someone walks past them!!!  She really sulks when she comes home.

Anyway I must get on.  I will try and post whilst away, it depends upon the internet connections.

I hope everyone has a happy and peaceful Easter.

Hugs, Susie x

This is What We Found This Morning!

This is what we found this morning!

Yes it started to snow last night at 10.00pm and snowed all night so it looked like this when we woke up!  It is supposed to snow all day on and off and tomorrow too!!  And it is March 22nd!!!!  Last year today’s temperature was 20°C, this year it is 0°C so freezing!  What a difference a year makes.

Eldest and Youngest were in foul moods too as School is open!!!  The primary school in the village has closed but not the senior school so they are really miffed!  In fact we had such a delightful breakfast this morning (sarcasm here!!!!!!).

Anyway I need to do house jobs this morning as yesterday was spent working all day for work and also getting some paperwork done for the swimming club!

Tomorrow we are supposed to be going to Rockingham Race Track for Youngest’s First Drive but it all depends upon the weather, so fingers crossed it will go ahead!

Treacle is tucked up in her basket asleep and I don’t think she will be moving far although she loves playing in the snow, it is really cold!

Have a Fun Friday

This sent a chill down my spine!

This was sent to us by a friend!  What I want to know is, who researches all these kind of things?

Abraham  Lincoln  was  elected to Congress in 1846.
John F.  Kennedy  was  elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham  Lincoln was  elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy  was elected President in 1960..

Both were  particularly concerned with civil  rights..
Both wives lost their children whilst  living in the White  House.

Both Presidents were shot on a  Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the  head

Now it gets really  weird.

Lincoln ‘s secretary was named  Kennedy..
Kennedy’s Secretary was named Lincoln …..

Both were assassinated by  Southerners.
Both were succeeded by  Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew  Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in  1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy,  was born in 1908.

John  Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born  in 1839.

Lee  Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was  born  in  1939.

Both  assassins were known by their three  names.
Both names are composed of fifteen  letters.

Now hang on to your  seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater  named ‘Ford’.
Kennedy was shot in a car  called ‘ Lincoln ‘ made by  ‘Ford’.

Lincoln was shot in a theater and  his assassin ran and hid in a  warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse  and his assassin ran and hid in a  theater.

Booth and Oswald were  assassinated before their trials.

As they would say on the X-Files, Spooky!!!!!!

The last few days have been really busy and no quilting done, although it was Quilt Club on Monday evening, which was good.  I have some pictures of the quilts the ladies had finished but they are on my Blackberry Tablet and I cannot get them to load onto the computer!!!  There is always something!

Our Chairman has also set the Mystery Quilt for this year and this month’s task is to get the fabric.  There is not a lot to get and it comes out as a wall hanging size.  Next month will be the cutting instructions and her final comment was “beware this month will be the easiest”! Oh my!!!!

Having read some of the other blogs I follow I believe I now have to go into each blog and follow by email or get a new reader as Google are ending Google Reader!!!!  Another job!

Youngest had his first part of his brace put on yesterday and one side is fine but the other is not.  It hurts and when he was trying to eat yesterday at lunch there was a “crack” so we are back at the dentist this afternoon.  He has not gone to school today as his face is swollen and it really hurts when he moves his mouth! I feel so sorry for him.  I had a brace so know how bad it is.  I think the next two years are going to be long!

I also have to start printing five A4 pages for every parent in the swimming club, there are 254 families, as we have some new regulations from the ASA, which they need to know about!  I will have fun collating them all and getting them out to everyone!  One of our other committee members has printed the letters with the names on for me, so at least that is done!

So on that note I had better get on.  I don’t like it when I am not creative in a week so I will have to find some time somewhere!  Also it is snowing again here!

Treacle isn’t here to do her Wednesday Wag, sorry, she is busy keeping Youngest company on his bed!  Although I think she is a little annoyed as she usually has the bed to herself on a normal day!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday.

Saw this picture on the web and the machine is exactly the same as the one my Grandmother had when she taught me how to sew!

National Quilting Day Today!

Today is National Quilting Day.  Why is is always on a day when I can’t do any quilting?  Trying to get on with some Spring Cleaning before Easter as we are going away to Scotland for the holidays!  Then when we get back it will be out in the garden and getting that sorted after its Winter hibernation!

Busy few days with work and the Boys are busy at school and getting very tired.  We went to the Boys’ Godparents last night for supper and had a wonderful evening.  They are always fun to be with and they have now finished the huge extension they were having on the back of the house.  I am very envious as Carol now has a living kitchen and it is great and I would so love to have one but don’t have the space or money to add on to our existing kitchen!  Oh well I will just have to spend lots of time round there!!!!

Youngest is swimming tonight but for Scouts this time and looking forward to that.

Have a wonderful weekend.

It’s raining and cold again Mom, but I don’t mind I am tucked up in my basket with my toy!

Spring! Not At All!!!!!

‘I’ve just heard the first cuckoo of spring – he was hammering on the door to come in.’

This cartoon came from today’s copy of the Mail On Line and it is so true!!! Although it is sunny today which is very nice to see I think the wind chill factor is about -7!!  Even Treacle is not keen to go out and as today is supposed to be The Wednesday Wag, I am writing as she is curled up in her basket in the same position as the other day!!!!

I have got 356 emails of work, not rubbish, to catch up on as we are trying out a new system!  Needless to say it is taking time!  I was also going to get some quilting blocks done tonight but Eldest has sent a message saying could I make him two cakes for school for tomorrow!  Yes no problem says I, just don’t expect your quilt to be ready when you go to Uni then!!!!!

A mother’s dilemma!!!!!

Must get on with the emails.

A Finish and Mother’s Day!

Look what my lovely Boys gave me for Mother’s Day!

Yesterday was Mother’s Day here in the UK, although the weather was really cold and snowy!!!  It was a great day, I got to have a bath in peace and then lunch and then watched a movie in the afternoon.  We still went to Swimming Club in the evening and had dinner when we got back.  I love those sorts of days!

Saturday Eldest was out with Girlfriend, Youngest was busy with a school project and DH was out at the County Swimming Championships.  So with everyone busy I got some quilting done.  This is what I made!

My bag from the tutorial on You Tube from The Missouri Quilt Company!

A closer picture of the material

Here it is stood up!

I will use it to carry all the rubbish I seem to collect in my normal bags, including my Blackberry Tablet, which will not fit in to any of my other bags!!!

It was great to make something and get it finished in a day!  Now I will be back to getting Eldest’s blocks done for his quilt.

It is snowing again here today and I have to catch up on the jobs I didn’t get done over the weekend.  You get to have fun for one weekend but then get behind!!!!!

Have a Marvelous Monday.

Treacle’s cold today so is tucked up in her basket!!!!

I went to the Quilt Shop!

Heirs & Graces Patchwork Shop in Darley Dale, Derbyshire

It has been a busy old week, so I decided to sneak off today and go to one of my favourite Quilt shops, Heirs & Graces.  They have a huge selection of fabric, sewing notions, kits, books and they also do classes.  I want to do a bag which I have seen of the Missouri Quilt Company’s You Tube site so thought I would go and see what they had got.

Love these fabrics.  I know the middle one is a Christmas fabric but I still think it is great and not too Christmas-y!!!

I had a quick look at their fat quarter baskets and found these fabrics I liked.  Don’t know yet what I will do with them, but they can go in my stash.

I also found these

And as it is almost Easter, they were selling off some of their Christmas fabric, so I bought some of these

I then saw this panel in the sale basket

I love this and will get around to making something with it soon.  Finally I bought some more wadding (you can never have too much!)

Don’t tell DH!  If I hide everything, he may not notice!!!!!  Tomorrow I will be getting on with Eldest’s quilt and probably cut out my pieces for my bag.  Yeah!!!

I hope you are having a fantastic Friday.  Weather is not good here again, foggy and cold and rainy too!!!!!

Youngest just got in from school and Treacle is so happy!!!!

It Makes You Wonder?

This was sent to us by a good friend, who runs their own business letting cottages in The Highlands of Scotland.  They have had their own fair share of whacky queries but I think this lot beat them hands down!!!  It does make you wonder what people’s expectations are!!!!

From Thomas Cook Holidays listing some of their UK clientele’s genuine complaints.

1. “I think it should be explained in the brochure that the local store in Indian villages does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts.”

2. “It’s lazy of the local shopkeepers to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during ‘siesta’ time — this should be banned.”

3. “On my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don’t like spicy food at all.”

4. “We booked an excursion to a water park but no-one told us we had to bring our swimming costumes and towels.”

5. “The beach was too sandy.”

6. “We found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as yellow but it was white.”

7. “Topless sunbathing on the beach should be banned. The holiday was ruined as my husband spent all day looking at other women.”

8. “No-one told us there would be fish in the sea. The children were startled.”

9. “There was no egg-slicer in the apartment.”

10. “We went on holiday to Spain and had a problem with the taxi drivers as they were all Spanish.”

11. “The roads were uneven..”

12. “It took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England. It took the Americans only three hours to get home.”

13. “I compared the size of our one-bedroom apartment to our friends’ three-bedroom apartment and ours was significantly smaller.”

14. “The brochure stated: ‘No hairdressers at the accommodation’. We’re trainee hairdressers will we be OK staying there?”

15. “There are too many Spanish people. The receptionist speaks Spanish. The food is Spanish. Too many foreigners now live abroad.”

16. “We had to queue outside with no air-conditioning.”

17. “It is your duty as a tour operator to advise us of noisy or unruly guests before we travel.”

18. “I was bitten by a mosquito. No-one said they could bite.”

19. “My fiancé and I booked a twin-bedded room but we were placed in a double-bedded room.

We now hold you responsible for the fact that I find myself pregnant.  This would not have happened if you had put us in the room that we booked.”

Off out to run some errands now, back later.

Thursday House Day!!!!

Yeah, right!  I like housework when it is finished!!

This is what I am doing today, house jobs. Well trying, but the phone keeps ringing, so I am now behind!!!!

This weekend we have swimming all day on Saturday and Sunday I am trying to get on with the Spring cleaning, which I need to get done before Easter, which is only now three weeks away!  Friday night we are going round to our friend’s house, for dinner, before they leave for the States for a three-week holiday.  I am so envious!!!

The Boys have school work to do and then it will be Monday again.  While the Boys are out on Saturday I have decided not to go and am going to try and get a lot of Eldest’s quilt blocks done.  I have also seen a great pattern on The Missouri Quilt Company You Tube site for a bag which I would like to have a go at.  It seems really simple, whereas some of the bag patterns I have seen are really complicated.  I had a go at one pattern and it was so unclear, I ended up making it how I thought it should go, not to the pattern.  Needless to say I will not be buying from that company again.

Oh well I had better get on.

Wednesday Wag!

Today is cold and foggy again.  It was nice yesterday afternoon, so we get one day of sun and then two days of fog!  Here I am outside in my garden.

I love being outside and can’t wait for the weather to get better.

This is one of my hiding places where Mom can’t see me.  If Dad sees me he will be cross as I have been chewing the fence behind me again!!

There is some brightness in the garden.  Mom took these pictures

But this is how foggy it is this afternoon

I have decided to retire to my basket for a sleep, it is too cold to be outside today.

Have a wonderful waggy Wednesday.
