Susie’s Friday Monthly Book Club.

71Nxc6jLR3L

I am half way through this book but as it is 700 odd pages long I get a pass.  It is Book One in a series of three by Robert Jordan.

Set in a distant land Rand is busy helping his father take cider into the village from their farm for the celebration of Beltine (spring to you and I).  However his father is concerned about visitors to the village and a strange hooded figure on a black horse which only Rand and his two friends could see.  His father, much to Rand’s annoyance, insists they go back to the farm, where in the dark of night they are attacked by un-holy beasts.  With his father badly hurt Rand gets him back to the village where he discovers that it was attacked, but only his friends’ houses.

One of the visitors tells him that he and his two friends need to leave the village and travel to the far distant Capital but won’t tell him why, but it is the only way to keep their village safe.  Having healed his father the visitor insists they leave in the middle of the night all haste to the Capital.

The story unfolds with the un-holy beasts at their heels, Rand and his friends being terrorised in their dreams and new cities which are not friendly either.

I love these fantasy books and am looking forward to reading Books 2 and 3 as well.  They certainly take you away from real life for a while!!!  If you like fantasy books, in the style of Tolkien then you will love this series.  As always available from Amazon in all forms.

I have been reading so much and working, I have been finding that my eyes are getting very tired.  I use glasses to read and work at the computer and I did have an eye test last year and it was okay but I was due for a re-test in March, which of course did not happen.  Anyway I have booked in for a test next week!

It is Molly’s Mom’s Birthday today!  We hope you have a lovely day!

Have a wonderful weekend all. Hopefully we will be able to get some jobs done outside over the weekend as the weather is supposed to be warmer and sunny.

#TBT.

In 2011 we took the Boys to an outdoor concert by Brian May and Kerry Ellis at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire which is home to the RAF College, which was to benefit the RAF Benevolent Fund and especially as my Dad was in the RAF during WWII.

We also, as a family, went to the luncheon before the concert again raising funds.

The outdoor stage with Brian May & Kerry Ellis.

The RAF College building where we had lunch.

There was a fly past of aircraft stationed at RAF Cranwell and flown by some of the Cadets.

All of us after the lunch.

At the end of the evening there was a large firework display.

It was a great day and the Boys still talk about it now.  We were fortunate that the weather was kind to us as well!

Tomorrow is Friday yeah!!!  I have house jobs to do, grocery shopping, washing and ironing to get done as well!!!  I think I will be getting up early to try and get it all done!!! I hope you have had a Thrilling Thursday.

The Wednesday Wag.

I am feeling a little better after yesterday’s little upset.  Mom doesn’t know if I banged my leg again or it was aching as it was so cold!!!!

I have had lots of TLC from Mom, Eldest and Dad so am feeling better.  In fact I have been running round with my tennis ball today.

As it is raining again today and has been since early this morning, I have been inside and resting in my basket next to Mom’s desk!!!  We are supposed to have some sun and warmer temperatures by the end of the week and I am looking forward to spending some time outside!!!

Happy Woofy Wednesday.

Tuesday, Tuesdays!

Was there a song with those words?  Who knows!!!  It has been a hectic work day again.

I have fallen back into the habit of waking up several times at night again!!!!  I had managed to get out of it and now it is happening again and who knows why!!!  Counting sheep does not help!

Treacle is feeling sorry for herself again today as I think she has tweaked her leg again!  It is either that or as it is cold it is aching!!  She was fine this morning but by this afternoon she is wandering around with a woe is me look on her face.  I am sure a good rest will help out!!!!

Eldest is out at Fiancé’s tonight for dinner so it is just DH and I in this evening.  Tomorrow will be busy again with work and it is going to be raining again all day!!!!  I really hope it is going to be warm and sunny soon!!!

I hope you all are having a good Tuesday!

“Monday, Mondays”!

I never did like that song!!!!  It has, however, been a typical Monday!!!!

I have been at my desk all day getting work done and as I finished one lot another load came in!!!!  Hey ho.

Today is National Fried Chicken Day!  Who knew?!!!!  However they won’t be having this for dinner tonight!!  DH has yet another zoom meeting for swimming tonight and Eldest is on a late evening tonight so it will be something which can be re-heated when they get back and have finished!!!

Despite it being July the last few days have been cool but supposedly by the end of the week it should be getting warm again!!!  There are a few jobs we need to do in the garden again and need some dry, fine days to do them!

As of today it looks like we will be able to get up to The Highlands in August for our vacation, of course that could all change between now and then so I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!  The only thing we may have to avoid are a certain set of people who are patrolling the border between Scotland and England stopping people travelling into Scotland!!!!!  Oh good grief Charlie Brown!!!  It really is too bad when you have to sneak across the border to go on holiday!!!!!  🙂

It really is a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!!!!

I am off now to get dinner which is going to be a movable feast and also try and get some nice jobs done as well, before we start the whole thing again tomorrow!!!

I hope you are having a good Monday and will have a great week.

Sunday Hair Cuts!!!!

Our wonderful Hairdresser, Rachel, came today for our haircuts and my colour!!!!  It is a relief to get it done.   There have been lots of articles in the paper/magazines etc about “Embracing your Grey”, ha, what a load of crock!!!  I know there are some ladies out there whose grey hair is very pretty but mine is coming in as iron grey and I hate it!!!  So I won’t be embracing it one iota!!!!   Here are some pictures for a laugh!!!!

This is the length it got to after a trim at the beginning of February. The right hand picture shows how much grey had come through!

An all over trim and my layers put back in.  On the right, grey gone, yeah!!!!

DH and The Boys are all cut and tidy now.  DH was getting to look like Einstein with the wild hair!!!!

It is going to be a busy week, work wise, and I have not got around to doing any of my nice jobs although I will have plenty of time as things are still being cancelled!  One of my Birthday presents from Youngest and Girlfriend was to go to the Horse of the Year Show with them in October which has been cancelled.  The Nottingham Beach, above, which is usually on all summer and opens just after the children break up from school (!) is not happening this year.  Of course there is some doubt now about Goose Fair at the beginning of October.  I think everyone just has to take each week as it comes!!!!

Happy Sunday everyone!

It’s Friday!

Well we made it to Friday this week, it has been one of those weeks!!!  I got house jobs done today and the grocery shopping and last night did a big basket of ironing.  The weather has turned again and it is cool and rainy here!!!  I just wish we could have some settled weather with it being warm and sunny and not too hot!!!

One good thing about the weekend is that I am having my hair cut and done on Sunday!!!  The first day that our hairdresser is able to work!!!  So I won’t look like the picture above every morning!!!  DH is also having his hair cut, I won’t scare you with a picture of how long his hair is at the moment, and the Boys are having theirs tidied up!!!!

If the weather co-operates we are still trying to get to stain the shed, den and outdoor furniture but the previous weekends have not been good enough to do that job.

We are not having much success with getting the swimmers back in the pools, despite all the meetings we are having!!!!  It all comes down to the actual pool operators and they do not seem keen at the moment to open!!!!  However the very keen parents seem to have all bought a particular brand of outdoor, above ground pool with tethers to keep the kids swimming.  I think I should have bought shares in that company as lockdown happened.  One thing for sure I am sure they will have had a good quarter!!!!!!

Still more events are being cancelled, despite things being eased a little which I suppose this year is no surprise.  We are now looking at events in September, October, November and December and wondering whether they will be able to happen or just to cancel them now!!!

We are still booked to go up to The Highlands in August for two weeks but that is still not definite.  In fact they were saying earlier in the week that if they get rid of the virus in Scotland they “may” insist on anyone travelling from England to quarantine for two weeks!!!!!!!  As you can imagine there has been uproar about that especially as a lot of Scotland relies on the tourism industry!!!  So we are just waiting to see what happens.  At this stage nothing surprises me!!!

I hope you lovely lot have a Wonderful Weekend whatever you are up to and I will see you all on Monday.

#TBT.

For #TBT this is from nine years ago.  Eldest was moving from Senior School into Lower Sixth to do his A’Levels and Youngest was moving from Primary School to Senior School.  Eldest was 15 and Youngest was 11.  As it was a big year for them we went down to London for the week as a celebration, after the Schools had broken up for the summer holidays in July.

One of the places you can visit during the summer, as the Queen is in Residence at her holiday home in Scotland, you can tour Buckinham Palace, which we did.  It was great to see all the rooms you usually see on TV and I also got to see the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress which was on display from their wedding in the April.

DH and The Boys outside the gates to Buckingham Palace.

We took them for Afternoon Tea at The Ritz.

The Palace, it was a very warm week weather wise!

The State Coach used by Her Majesty on big occasions.

We also went to a few of the museums, which we had been to before, The Natural History museum being their favourite, the British Library and also did a bit of shopping too.  We had a great week and something the Boys still talk about today!!!!

Happy Thursday everyone, Friday tomorrow!!!!!

The Wednesday Wag!

When Mom has pinched your quilt cover for washing!!!  What does an Airedale do but sleep on just the quilt!

Of course you can always push Eldest into the corner of his King Size bed and stretch out on what is left!!!!!

Hope you are having a good Woofy Wednesday
